Clipped Wheezy  Reply with quote

I decided to clip Wheezy after all. I wanted to train freeflight with him (starting with recall training) but I decided it had to wait a little longer.
Today I brought Scuttle to the outdoor gym and little Wheezy didn't really agree he couldn't come. Sad He's like this all the time. When I returned from outside after 10 minutes or so, Wheezy was still hanging from the bars. (He does that most of the time) He looked so sad.
So I clipped him. (It really hurt, and I still find it hard.. Embarassed ) Wheezy couldn't care less. He's racing all over the outdoor gym, ripping bark everywhere. He has raced around the outdoor gym like 20 times, closely followed by Scuttle.

So he didn't even pout? That's great-- and he has the reward of the gym! I keep thinking about flight training, but, like Wheezy, she just isn't ready yet.

No he didn't.. Wink He's such an easy going bird. He spent most of the time outside yesterday, and today in the evening, right as I type this. Cool

Why not ready for flight training? Aren't her wings fully grown? Smile

oh Sue, i'm so sorry to hear that you had to clip Wheezy's wings. But glad to hear that he's coping nicely without his flight though.. I guess it's more fun to be able to hang out with his friends rather being able to fly but yet miss out on all the outdoor fun. I think you did the right thing for Wheezy..

I hated it when I clipped Apollo's wings for the second time as he was getting a bit 'out of control' for me. so he got the clipped, and ever since then he's been a lot better for me and I can actually handle him again when he can't fly! Though his feathers are growing back now, and he can now fly a fair distance again...

Hey Bih, thanks for your message. Did you also clip Apollo's wings again? I didn't know, I must have missed something. I knew he was being a pain at times..

Wheezy wasn't that much of a pain, I would have expected him to be. He was very easy going, stepping up nicely etc but it was sooo sad to see him wanting to go to the outdoor gym.. Poor guy. He definitely loves to hang out with his friends on the outdoor gym! He's had so much fun the last days. He's also busy bothering the King. (By stealing his food! Shocked He hasn't lost anything of his character, little bugger!)

So how many feathers have grown in with your king? Smile I hope everything is better now, and he's more easy for you to handle?

yeah I've had to trimmed Apollo's wings again. I didn't mention it here though, so you didn't miss anything. it was awhile back that I trimmed it. may be about two months? can't really remember. although I only trimmed five feathers rather than the full seven feathers.
He's got two new feathers on each wings, but he just lost another three trimmed feathers, so another three will be popping up soon. Looks like he's almost got all his feathers back already. Well Apollo is slowly becoming nasty towards me again now that he can fly well enough again, he doesn't need me to cuddle him no more.. Sad but that's ok, he goes to his daddy meanwhile Athena won't leave me alone!! LOL.. Achilles is way more independent than Apollo and Athena is, so that's good I guess. Very Happy

That's great that Wheezy hasn't changed his personality at all even without his flight. I didn't think he was being a pain, but you're right, it must be very sad to see him wanting to go and have fun outdoor with the others. and great to hear that he isn't afraid of the King! I beat King Zazu isn't too happy that Wheezy is out on the outdoor gym with him.. hehe.. poor darlng.. hehehe...

She goes places with me regularly. If I let her wings grow out, I feel she has to be ready to wear a Tinkerbell type harness. When Shanlung explained the harness, he emphasized that the bird should first be trained to come on command. This parrotlet doesn't even waddle across the table to come on command!

I'm sorry to hear that Apollo is being nasty to you again.. Sad Is your hubby a partner to him?
Glad to hear that the little pink girl does seem to like you! Very Happy

Zazu has found his friend on the outdoor gym by the way: My sister's lovebird Sammie. Rolling Eyes

No, Shanlung posted a link that goes to another post he did. It is a slide show with directions on how to make a harness for your bird. It is safe for the bird to fly in, and you make it to your bird's measurements, so it is a perfect fit. I think he said it only took ten minutes to make one, but I don't think he has ever tried to hold a parrolet still. Laughing I think he stressed in his post that a great deal of training went into getting Tinker bell ready to fly with her harness.

Apollo definitely has his moments with me. If he sees me with the pink fluffs, he'll come over to me and sit on my leg and cuddle right in and hide from the pink fluffs (who are usually on my shoulder). but then he will forget and starts chewing my arm!! he doesn't like me, but he still doesnt want to share me... selfish boy ey??
Yes, Athena seems to have found a friend in me when we're around them. So that's nice, she tries to preen my face and my ears. it tickles so very badly when she preen my ears... heheh...

That's great to hear that Zazu has found a friend.. It's funny that he should choose your sister's lovebird as his friend.. May be Sammie reminded Zazu of little Flit? poor darling.

Wow! Talking about selfish indeed! What a king! Not wanting to share you and not liking you. He should make up his mind LOL!

Perhaps Sammie does remind him of Flit?? I think so? They come from the same breeder.
Sammie isn't doing very well at the moment. He chewed a wound under his wing. Poor guy. He's wearing a collar and I have to handfeed him as he doesn't like to eat a lot.. Sad

yeah he's a bit of a selfish one isn't he, just a king should be!! LOL..
He's been quite nice to me in the last week or so. I do think he goes through period of hormonal stage or whatever when he does bite me be for no reason. He's being nice to me now... definitely still doesn't want to share me though coz when I get home from work, I get the two out to play first thing as hubby usually has Apollo out already, and as soon as he sees me with Athena and Achilles, he'd come right over from wherever he may be at the time and try to get my attention away from those two.

Sorry to read about poor little Sammie, I hope he's going to be alright. Is he still under your care now?
