| Holiday plucking :( |
|
|
Petrie started plucking his leg. Its not a very big patch, but I feel awful even though I'm trying to stay positive.
I admit, I couldn't spend much time with the fids because of the Holidays, so I think Petrie got mad and started plucking.
The good news is he hasn't plucked in a few days, it seems that since the holidays are pretty much over he is getting to be a happy conure again. My poor little baby. I could hardly sleep last night worrying about him. I even started to think I was a bad parront, but I tried to keep positive. My fids are going to the vet's for a check up in the new year, and I was thinking how we could get a Elizabethan Collar for Petrie, but I think that would stress him out and it seems he's not plucking anymore.
I'll keep you updated.

Haley,
If you are worried, then get an collar, you don't have to ever put it on, but if you need it, it will be right there handie. Just a thought, I know that with Penn around we keep them handie...

Haley I'm sorry to hear this
I'm glad that he seems to have stopped. I will keep my fingers crossed that he won't start up again.

It's too bad the holiday season can be so stressful! Not only for people, but for our feathered & furry friends too. And we all know the effects stress can have on our birds!
Even tho I've been home with my birds throughout the "holiday week", I know they've still been thru some stress with all the excitement going on & people in & out. I've been trying real hard to get them thru it tho.
Make sure he's eating some very nutricious food. I know you said you got him some pellets & warm birdy food which I'm sure is good. Give him a good shower too.
You don't want to "over do" the attention, but make sure he knows you're there for him & everything's OK.
Have you seen him plucking? Are you sure he's not moulting? Just a thought.
Keep your chin up Haley |

thanks Cathy and Shirin. I just finieshed giving him a bath (I do it everyday, altho I couldn't do it much thruout holidays )I got pics and vids of the bath. Also, he is on the new Zupreem pellets and I bought some "Kitchen Creations" warm food for them. I'm pretty sure its plucking because theres a bald patch and feathers at the bottum of the cage.
Thanks,
Haley |

I'm sorry to hear this Haley. I know how you must feel. Iago plucks at times.. It's hormonal with him.. He starts and then suddenly stops.. Very strange.
Try to give him some extra healthy stuff, he'll need that energy to make new feathers. |
