Hello everyone! I'm new to the board and my Conure is new to me I just got my Green Cheek Conure last week, I sure do love that little bird. Its name is Napolean. Its very tame and loves for me to hold it. Im still working on getting it to step up on my finger. Oh forgot to mention its only 3.5 months old. Also, I cant seem to get it to eat any fruit or veggies, I will eat some to make it look good, he will try it but then shake his head. He also dont like baths, but I still give them.. I do love that little clown I will try to attach a picture, but not for sure how to do that. |

hi there! Welcome to this forum!
You're so lucky, I love green cheeks, they're so cute! I can't wait to see pictures!
You can read my post under this topic about how to teach step-up:

With the diet, you have to be really patient, as I'm sure you've realized, birds are REALLY fussy about their diet Have you tried steaming the vegetables? My lovebirds don't eat raw veggies, but they LOVE steamed ones. |

Hi JM1968! Napolean is a beautiful little guy & he sounds just wonderful! And it sounds like he's got a great home!
The only advise I can offer as far as the fruits & veggies is to just experiment with all different ways you can to serve them. Try them cooked, raw, warm, cold. Try them slice up, diced up, in all kinds of sizes & shapes Parrots also like to be offered a variety that they can pick & choose from. And don't give up on something just becuz he doesn't like it one time - he may just love it another day. Have a little fun with it - I always find it amusing to watch my birds reactions to things!
Congrats! Enjoy! |

LOL!!! You look a bit nervous Justme when he nibbled your earlobe! That's cute though. And might I say Welcome to the forum!! You're gonna have a lot of fun here! Everyone is so helpful and friendly. Make sure you come back daily and put us in your favorites!! Also, a lot of questions can be placed in the general forum where a lot of us end up going. We usually use breed selective forums for specific breed questions so don't hessitate to use the general forum. Birds in general are pretty much similar and even though a lot of us don't own conures, we can give very useful information.
One key thing with birds is time and patience and practice. It could take months to get your bird liking new fresh foods and like Cathy said, try it in a variety of different ways.
As long as you found a way that your birdy "tolerates" bathing, he'll grow to like it more. Even offer a shallow dish in his cage so he can bathe on his own too.
Have fun and welcome!! |

Napolean is my first bird and I cant get enough of him. When I get home from work he squaks at me once, I get him out of his cage and he stays with me the rest of the evening.. the cutest thing so far is when he goes to sleep. He sleeps in a stocking cap of mine I have hanging in his cage. He snuggles up in it. I will approach him and he looks at me with sleepy eyes and makes a slight peep sound then goes to bed. Sorry to go on, I just love him. I'm also trying different ways of preparing him fruits and veggies. I will have to take more pictures of him. |

Oh he sounds sooo precious! Don't worry about going on about him, we all love talking about our birds I think my friends (the non bird people) are getting sick of me constantly telling the cute stories about my fids |

One of my all time fav!! Which makes me want one of those 'paulie'!! LOL... Did you know that they used 12 birds in the movies?? Different birds for different skill sets filmed in the movie. |

Hey Justme, do you want to hear a strange way Chaquita eats oranges? You can't just give her a wedge, she wants to sit on my shoulder and I have to feed her 1 pulp at a time, otherwise she just takes the piece, shakes her head and it ends up in my hair or face Pineapple has to be cut up into tiny bitesize pieces.
That goes to show some of the weird ways they could possibly try things. Also, if I take a bite of it then she'll try it, even if it means eating bird food |

I'm still trying to get Napolean to try new foods, but hes still being stubborn. Now if he sees me eat he will try it, but just to put it in front of him.. well he will snub it. Hes also starting to make new sounds, really soft little sounds, I think its cute. |
