Hmmm, I am wondering if Cathy has the ability of forsight??
She mixed up Iago & Wheezy some days ago when I posted a topic in which I said that Iago had said 'Lekker' to point out that he was hungry.. And that his bowl was empty!
This morning, I came into the room with a bowl of pellets. I always fill the bowls from one bowl. When I stood in front of Wheezy's cage, he clearly said: 'Lekker' (Which means good, as in tasts good)
I thought I had made this up in my mind. Then Wheezy repeated 'Lekker' (As if he were impatient for me to fill his bowl with pellets)
I immediately started filling his bowl with pellets LOL!
His voice sounds like a grey, very low, but very 'electronic' like Iago..
I did never expect him to talk!!
How come his first word is 'Lekker'?? Is he that food orientated?? |

maybe Iago taught him it? Maybe he saw Iago get food when he said "lekker" and wheezy decided that lekker was the new word for food? they are a little too smart! |

Sue,
When you teach Iago & Wheezy to get your spoons, do you use the word 'Lekker'? |

LOL, what a smart boy!!! You've got a parrot that echoes a parrot.. so cute. It's amazing actually how fast a parrot can pick up stuff another parrot takes so very long to learn. My Apollo taught my parent's birds to cough in like a weekend!! It took him well I guess about a month to learn it.. coz I was coughing for like while I was sick for a month!!
So may be Wheezy learnt it off Iago. what smart birdies. |

Oh, I bet Iago taught it to him! I read something recently about that African Gray in Arizona that is so famous for his reasoning ability. If you show him three keys, and one is a different color, he will tell you that the difference is the color. If you show him two toy cars and a key, he will tell you that the key is different. His person is teaching him to read now. Anyway, a new AG is living with him, and the first AG is teaching the new bird what he knows at a pace much faster than the person can teach the new bird.
By the way, would "tasty" be a good translation for "lekker"? |

He's smart isn't he? He's quite easily agitated by the way. Or should I say overload? It's still new to me because Iago doesn't have this!
That Apollo! Ofcourse the birds of your parents would cough along. It's a 'regal' sound.. |

really? I Guess different bird is different in their own special way... you'll just have to learn to observe the limit for little Wheezy... You're lucky that Iago can play until he's tired... I wish my king was like that.. hehehe
Yes the cough.. well the lories now use the cough along with the microwave 'beep' to let my mum know that they are hungry!!! LOL.. it's too funny!! |

Well, I just found out about overload yesterday. I was holding a spoon with VERY little peanutbutter for Zazu, when I was training him to retrieve shapes.. He went into overload!! And not a little.
That's soo funny that the lories cough along with the micowave beep! |

oh my King Zazu had enough of training huh... I don't think cockatoo can go into overload halfheartedly... it's always 'full-on'!!!
Yes the lories, they are very funny, sometimes they will beep like the microwave if anyone opens the microwave door.. it's cute too. |

Full on? I guess it was more than full on.. But I think you know this because you've experienced it with King Apollo..
Poor spoon.. It was only trying to feed peanutbutter!
Perhaps the lories want to look INTO the microwave? |
