Hi I am new to the site.
I have a red throated conure and all he or she wants to eat is sunflower seeds. can any one suggest what else I can get for him to eat.
Also is there any way to tell if it is a he/she.  |

Hi bird lady!
How old is your conure? Did you adopt him, or is he a baby? Just trying to get an idea of how long he's been on this diet. Sunflower seeds do not meet a parrot's nutritional needs at all! A well balanced diet should include high quality pellets, vegetables, grains, pasta and legumes, and small amounts of fruits or nuts as special treats. I know birds can be very fussy and picky when it comes to what they want to eat, but with patience and persistence I believe any bird can be converted to a healthy diet. I should know, I just converted my VERY stubborn lovebirds to pellets after 6 solid months of trying!  |
