Parakeets are a fun first time bird to get. They are also the most inexpensive bird to get. Try finding a reputable breeder to get your budgie from. They are vet checked. Going to a bird fair is a good way to see and handle birds. The breeders can also give you lots of helpful info. And no you will not get bird flu from a healthy budgie from a reputable breeder.
