I'm being a slow poke with updating that page aren't I?!
darn this being sick stuff!
I don't want to do much of anything!
my poor birds aren't getting as much attention as they usually do.....
I just don't want to expose them to my ickies....
and I plain just don't want to get out of bed....
does that make me a bad mom? |

Carrie and John, The card isn't as nice as the one you sent Kacey, but kacey wanted to send you a card showing her appreciation for the wonderful gift. She is enjoying snacking on the cheerios.
Her vet visit on friday Feb 16 went a bit better, but she had been preening her wing hard again and irritated it and made it bleed again. She goes back again Thurs Feb 22 for another recheck. The vet will take the wrap off the wing and put a collar on her so she can't get at the wing. Kacey has to get readjusted to being without a cast or wrap on her wing. So she may be in a collar for awhile till she stops over preening her wing. Good news is the wing is healed, now as to can she extend it for flying is another matter we will have to wait and see about. It's just going to take some time.
My Mom is also recovering, she just recently had a quadruple bypass surgery. So both my mom and Kacey are keeping us pretty busy attending to them.
Updates on Kacey's wing will continue.

Carrie I use a website called Stained Glass Collage. You can upload your pics on there and then make all kinds of collage pics. Then if the site operator likes them, they will show it for all to view. I have had a couple of collages piced to be shared with the public. Check it out. Its cool, and free!!!! |

I hope you are right Carrie. Right now every time Kacey sees me coming she starts running away. She doesn't want me to do therapy on her. Its not hurting her, its just she hates to be held and confined. She wants to be free and independent. She will cuddle on her own terms. I'm hoping for some improvement in 2 weeks time, but the shoulder is pretty frozen in place. I don't think she will be 100%, I will settle for 50% of movement in that shoulder joint. She has been good throughout this whole ordeal, I just can't believe how well she adapted to the cast, then the collar, she is one spunky little bird. Lots more pin feathers are coming in on the wing, doesn't look so bare. I am still taking updated pics as she heals. When I get enough, I will download them onto computer and add to her diary page.

Regarding the
red Palm Oil
- some people mix it in with their bird's food or spread it on bread.
Good luck with the oil & let me know how it goes. Make sure it stays fresh!
Did you look into the vitamin stuff? I did mention that didn't I?? |

Hi Carrie! Thanks for your comment! I think Manu really does love being in it! He's so ornery tho - if I go into the house for just a minute, to grab a cup of coffee, or use the facilities, or anything, he starts squawking (sp?) loudly!!! Can't allow him to do that for long, as we have very close neighbors who probably wouldn't appreciate a whole lot of that noise
He was only in ther for one day, becuz I was pretty sick yesterday, but I hope it'll warm up a bit more today & I can take him out again.
You know, he got ahold of his BRAND NEW aviator harness (my fault ) & chewed part of it in half. I don't know if I'll be able to sew it, or fix it somehow . |

I was just reading about other's use of Red Palm Oil & storing it - if you aren't already wondering what to do with that big bottle!
This is from a woman I know who uses it:
Refrigeration isn't required, although it will extend the shelf life. If I remember right, a bottle of RPO is good for one year stored at room temperature and for 3 years stored in the fridge.
However, chilling it WILL make it turn solid. It liquefies again when it warms up. I put some in a small bottle that I keep at room temperature for easy use, and keep the big bottle in the fridge.
Let me know how it's going & maybe I'll just check your diary! |

I've been thinking about the nutrition & mutilation issues - such heartbreak.
I was reading this thread & thought I'd share some of it with you directly. Avian Trio is a bee pollen product - see ad ~ http://www.parrot-paradise.com/avtriot.shtml
quote:
(A)...I am trying
avian trio
for my birds---wish me luck ....
(B) I bought some from there a little while ago & have found that it does have a flavor I guess. Piper LOVES Beak Appetit & I put a little on it before I gave it to her, mixed it up good & let her have it. She took a couple of bites & wouldn't touch it. She took the lid I served it to her on & threw it out of her food dish!! Course now, I may have used too much on it too, was just a pinch but still enough to change the taste of the food. I made birdie muffins a couple of days ago & put some in those & all of my flock love them! I put some of the Avian Trio in it, plus some grated up carrots, kale & ground up pellets. So at least they're eating it!
(C) [who has an Ekkie, Too & a Grey] It worked miracles for my guys! I think you'll see a difference in no time! A few days, no exaggeration. Then after a few weeks it was dramatic. Afa's feather quality is like a show bird, and her colors are amazing. It also increased her appetite since she was a very finicky eater when I first took her home. The other 3, same thing. I cant say enough good about the product.
I serve it to them once everyday. I sprinkle it over there hot lunch meal which is always moist. Its usually warm veggies, or Asian Medley. You can put it on fruit also. If you sprinkle it on their pellet blend it all just falls to the bottom so dont bother with that, its will be a waste. Put it on something you know they love so they get use to the taste first. At this point, Buddy will eat it off a spoon if I let him. Once they start to get it into their system you will see a color change in the feathers along with quality. The feathers will become tight and over lap tight. You'll see more energy, appetite, and an overall contentment in them that I cant really explain. Royal Jelly and bee Pollen work wonders in humans as well. Dont be alarmed if you smell it on their breath or if they pick up a musk from it. Afa acquired the best smell once she started it. good luck guys! Let me know when you start it!
(A) ...curious---did any of your birds pluck prior to using this product? As you know from my previous posts, mine are rescues with "issues"....I'm hoping I have the same great results.
(C) ...my CAG was a rescue (in my opinion not a rehome). Anyway, yes, he was an overpreener. He had 2 big strips down his chest when I took him last July, down to the down with a little flesh showing. By January, he was fully feathered. I also have him on red palm oil. He looks great now!
(D) [original Avian Trio suggester to all these people] ...Good luck with it ...! Any results will take at least a month if not longer. It is not instant, so be patient.
It is actually great for all birds
- not only those with issues.
It boosts their immune system, fills in gaps in nutrition and helps feathering.
Start slowly - it must be placed on something it can stick to and try to mix it in as good as possible. You may want to start with about 1/8 tsp and work your way up to 1/4 tsp. That, along with f/s lighting, may hopefully do the trick. If your fids like cinnamon, you can also sprinkle a small amount of cinnamon onto the food you have chosen to mask the taste. It is definitely an acquired taste.
I know this is long but thought of you when I was reading it. How has the red palm oil worked?

Today I figured out that, since there is no private messageing, there still may be hope of contacting you through these comments. I noticed several months ago that you or John had left me a private message concerning a cleanser of some sort. At the time, I was in the midst of spending every day in the hospital or nursing home-- for about three months. I had no time to respond, but was flattered that you valued my opinion. Anyway, at the same time, my roommate got kicked out of her apartment, so we both had to pack up and move, and I no longer had access to her computer. By the time I got resettled (kinda) and set up on another computer, the PM function was gone! I'm sure it appeared, from your perspective, that I snubbed you! So sorry!!! I have missed seeing posts from the two of you, and hope that you and your birds are all okay. |
