Jennie the Sennie
DOB: 10/3/05 sex: she has not been DNA sexed, but the breeder insists she is female, so I'm going with that, & since her name is Jennie, I'll probably never have her tested! came to us on: 1/5/06 from: breeder M Melia in Omaha, NE cost: $350 present diet: Kaytee brand fortified diet about a week after I got her, I switched her seed diet to Sun Seed Vita Parrot Mix 2/15/06 First Avian Vet Visit 2/15/06 She did amazingly well & I was very proud of her! I forgot my camera at home tho She weighs111 grams & the vet says she seems very healthy! I spoke to him about converting her to a pelleted diet & he approved of the outline I am following. Also today was officially her first day out of approx 6 weeks quarantine! 2/15/06 Converting Jennie to a pelleted diet Her very first introduction to pellets & I must say I'm very pleased at how well she took to them! I'm giving her Zupreem Natural for small parrots. I'll keep a bowl always half full & will give her 1tablespoon of her seed mix in the mornings & again in the evenings, & some veggies, pasta, beans, or something else at lunch time. I'll continue with that for probably a week. I'm going by instructions I've read, but it seems like SO little seeds to be giving her, compared to what she is used to getting! But I guess it's OK as long as she's eating the pellets. 2/16/06 Oh Yikes! She doesn't seem to be eating the pellets nearly as well as she did yesterday! I'll keep watching! 2/21/06 She's doing very well with her diet! She's actually a very good healthy eater all the way around. She has no problem at all trying new foods I give her & really loves her veggies. For her noon feedings, I've been giving her a mixture of cooked 17 beans & egg noodles mixed with frozen chopped veggies & she loves it! Tomorrow I'll begin her second week of the conversion process & leave out her morning ration of seeds. 2/24/06 We're now into our 2nd week of her conversion diet & she continues to do very well with it. I'm now giving her a tablespoon of seed mix in the mornings & some kind of fresh food in the late afternoon or early eve for supper, while keeping her pellets always available.
