Lots of Updates!
Oh boy, there's been lots going on since I last updated!
First of all, Jennie is done with her 6 weeks of quarantine! YAY! Now she's able to get away from her cage more & hang out with the rest of us. I'm still just too nervous about introducing her to the big guy, but I did kind of introduce her to Poppy. It was NOT love at first sight!

I set up a perch on the outside of Poppys cage & set Jennie on it. Poppy didn't take too well to the whole thing! And I think Jennie just got defensive due to Poppys attitude! We'll see, but I don't want put little ole Poppy into any kind of danger.
Jennie was in for her first avian vet check on Feb 15th. Forgot my camera at home tho He seemed very happy with her looks & said she seems very healthy. She weighs 111 grams. She's still got some growing to do though.
I've also begun the conversion of her seed diet to a pelleted parrot diet. Most avian vets, as well as a lot of parrot keepers, tout a pellet diet as the healthiest, including our vet. And I agree, as long as the diet is supplemented with lots of fresh veggies, fruits, other fresh foods, as well as the occaisional seeds. The whole process does take awhile tho & has to be done with caution & close attention to their weight. Jennie is young enough that she took right away to the pellets, tho she still prefers her seeds right now, which I am slowly phasing out.
When I got Manu, he was no problem converting to a pellet diet either.
Hubby & I walked part of the 30 acre woods his folks house sits on for branches to use to make a tree for the fids. Manu loves it!

Jennie was a bit intimidated by it at first, but has since come to really love it too

The problem is, Manu is going to have it chewed down to nothing soon. I've got one on order made from manzanita wood, which is very hard & the only thing I've found that Manu can't splinter easily, that should have already been here, but when I called about it last nite, they haven't even shipped it yet He promised he'd get it out next Tuesday.
Jennie has really come a long way in the past week or so. She is stepping up very consistantly well on my finger now, not only from her training perch, but also from her cage, which I was afraid was never going to happen! Her bites have become much less vicious & much more playful now. She really is just such a delight! She did try to pierce my ear today tho! YIKES! I was cleaning the inside of her cage while she was playing on top of it & I felt her come down & chew on my hair, which was OK, all part of the bonding process. But DANG! She finally found something & tried to bite right into it! It was, of course, my EAR! Hurt like you know what, but I didn't take it personally, after all, she didn't realize it was attached to me. Right? She has just recently started to let me give her gentle scritches on her head
I'm SO happy! She started out just letting me pet her for just little bit before she would try to nip at me, but now she just loves it & I think she'd let me pet her for hours!
I left the pet taxi on our dining table after taking Jennie to the vet & Cuddles just figured it was her new bed!
That's where she's been almost ever since
