My 13 year old 'tiel, Poppy came to me as a gift from a family friend as a weenling. He was my first bird & is the oldest of the 3 birds now living with me.
He's been through a whole lot with me, including 4 homes.
All of my feathered & furry friends are a blessing to me, of course, but I think that little Poppy amazes me the very most. I really just never thought that he would be with me for so long!
But he's still with me, & by all appearances, going strong!
This past Nov or Dec Poppy got a new cage. He had been in his prevous cage for at least a year, probably close to 2 years. While in his old cage, he would spend a great part of his days outside of his cage, on a perch I had positioned outside the door of it. The door was left open while I was around, so he could come & go as he pleased. He's always been fully flighted, but very seldom flies.
I've felt just terrible because since being in his new cage, he never comes outside on the perch anymore.
Now, after all this time, I finally figured out the problem, did some rearranging of his perches & he immediately came out on his perch!
Isn't he just amazing, & so beautiful!

awwww, stretch those wings Poppy!

His other cage had horizontal bars all the way around it. His new cage has horizontal bars on 2 sides of it. The back & front, where the main door is at, is mainly verticle bars, which he can't manuever around on very easily.
So all I had to do was put the perch outside one of his food bowl doors & he was right out on it!
I can't believe how I just didn't see something that was so obvious
& that poor Poppy had to suffer once again because of me!
Poppy's taught me so much over the years! I just wish it were I that had to suffer thru my learning, instead of him.
His tolerance, adaptability, & acceptance are just a few of the many, many things I love so much about him!
Wave "bye bye" to the camera!
