Time Away from their Cages
Trying New Things

Yesterday while Manu was on his new tree, stretching & preening his feathers

I let Jennie hang out on the big guys cage for awhile & she really seemed to have a great time exploring all the big stuff

and while Manu & Jennie were preoccupied, I put Poppy on the home made tree

but I don't think he had such a great time.  In fact I don't think he moved a step to the left or the right for the hour or so he was on there!

Poppy's rather cage bound.  He doesn't accept new things at all, such as the tree.  He has been housed in the sun room, so that's nothing new to him, but he just has never hung out anywhere but inside his cage.  His cage door is left open when I'm around & he has a perch just outside the door, but he seldom goes out on it.

But I think I'll keep putting him on the tree regularly & hopefully he'll come to enjoy time away from his cage as much as the other birds do.

I did the same thing with the three of them again today & at least Poppy felt comfortable enough to relax & preen.

Then I got very brave & put Jennie on the tree with Poppy!  With me standing right over them of course

Jennie mostly just ignored Poppy for a long while, but then decided to get just a little aggressive.  It might have been just normal behaviour for Jennie just meeting Poppy without having cage bars between them, but it made me nervous & I intervened & removed Jennie right away.

I do plan on doing just this same routine daily, or whenever I've got the time & maybe someday they'll just accept the others presence without even paying attention to each other.
