My Chooks.....

Lucky, Specky, Pecky, Buttercup, and Nameless....

Hi all

I thought that it was time for me to introduce my outside 'flock' to the forum...   and since Shirin has so very nicely asked me for the pics, and I said I would post some pics, so here they are...

Lucky is the oldest of them all.  She was actually brought home with another three of her kind, which is by the way, Isa Brown Hens.... But unfortunately my parents dog got a bit excited, and thought that the chooks wanted to play with her, and well Ginger and the other two (hadn't given them names yet) didn't make it    .  Lucky almost didn't make it either, she was saved just in time which is why she is now called Lucky.  Although she has lost the use of her left eye due to the pressure that Josie (the dog) had on her skull.  We weren't sure if she was going to make it or not as she was not 'with it' for like two weeks or so... Then we decided to get another four to keep her company, and made sure the dog was no where near the chooks and made sure that she knew she was not allowed near them. Well anyway, that was like almost three years ago now, and we still have them all, mind you, I have moved out and so have the chooks...

Well the other four are named Pecky (coz she used to peck my toes everytime I go in their pen area), Specky (coz i liked the name and she's full of specks on her feathers), Buttercup (just coz I thought I ought to have a chook with that name), and Nameless ( for the longest time I couldn't think of a name for her, so she was stuck with that!!!  So lame hey!!! hehehe)

Anyway, here are some pics of them.. Although I don't think I've got a pic of Nameless... Which is alright for the time being as she hasn't got too much feathers on her, I think her feathers were pulled out by the others!!!    Not sure why they are doing that... Although good news is she's growing them back now and they are not pulling it out anymore, so hopefully soon enough she'll get her feathers back!!  Looks so ugly without all the feathers!!! LOL

We are allowed to keep 8 hens in our yard according to the local council law for this shire. We are however not allow to keep rooster at all unless you've got permission from the council to do so.  Not that I would get one, although I thought having little chicken running around the backyard would be pretty cool too!  That's ok, I'm happy with the five of them. They are all big layers... The egg sizes ranges from 56g up to 85g... They are way bigger than those you get from the shop!  Gotta love those eggs.. I have trouble eating them all!! So I give most of the eggs away to family and friends.

Well I might update this page when Nameless gets her feathers back.....until than... cheers
