Some local birds from my weekend away....

The following pics were taken when I was staying at a lovely place called Lorne about an hour further along the coast from where I live.  As you will see there is an amazing abundance of local birdlife, so I was in heaven   My boyfriend had to drag me away when it was time to go home.  All these pics were taken on our friends balcony, so the wild birds are very friendly.

Firstly here are some Laughing Kookaburra's.  These guys are carnivores and usually eat lizards, snakes and insects.  They are just adorable though and even let us give them scritches.  As their name suggests they sound like they are laughing when they get going

Next is a beautiful young Magpie.  These guys are also carnivores.  When they are adult they are jet black and white, but when they are young they have a lot of brown and grey.  This guy was very inquisative and almost wanted to follow us inside.

And lastly the parrots  These are all wild King Parrots.  They are females and young.  The adult males have bright red bodies and green wings but there wasn't any of them around this day.  Aren't they beautiful

I think the one in the centre bottom shot is a young male.  He had red flecked over his head and neck, unlike the females.  I hope you enjoyed my pics, I hopefully I will head down that way again soon to get some more
