April

Rio is now 1 year old!
Thanks Sue @ Fluffies for the lovely card.
Rio's Hatch day was April 1st.

Rio & Laker hanging out together.
It isn't all that easy to photo Rio on his own as he loves to be with Laker.
Laker looks a tad bored with the photo session.

Not About Birds - just me. 5_8_10v.gif

My husband & I recently were invited to a Green Earth LED show in Toronto.  We had never had a booth before so it was a bit crazy.  It went quite well.  We had an excellent spot & we managed to connect to a lot of people.  The company we represent is off to Germany this April to introduce their new lights at the large lighting show there.  Then later on they're off to Vegas.

I have joined Oprah's book club  - this is so fun!
- My son says I'm officially 'old' now. LOL
I joined on the insistence of a dear friend who wanted me to experience the book, A New Earth by Erkhart Tolle.  I have really enjoyed it & the online experience.  It has come at a really important time - just as my parents are going through their troubles with health, that affect my own.
It's nice to be able to deal with the old issues that drive me so crazy, in a new light, that isn't destructive.

Bunny has come for a visit.
That's right - Shirin's Bunny!

Today is the 12th of April:
Shirin is off on a holiday & asked me to help her with Bunny.  She came by with her Dad to drop off Bunny & most of her stuff.  Here's Shirin setting the cage up - sorry Shirin I didn't take very good photos - I guess I was too excited.  Shirin is a real beauty & seems very sweet.  Bunny's also very sweet & hopefully will adjust to this change in her life until the end of the 22nd .

Sunday morning - April 13th
Bunny had fruit [apple] & almonds first thing this morning.
Then she shared some egg when we had breakfast.
When we were having our fruit she was out of the cage & she climbed down & onto the table.  She headed for her bag of almonds - took one & climbed back to the top of the cage to eat.

It's a very nice cage but I don't think they design them with the bird in mind.  The top part should be smaller so when she eats & poops it all stays in the cage area!.

She's being a great guest so far.
Apparently my son was freaked out in the middle of the night - he went to get some water & Bunny said 'Hello'.

Sunday evening she ate some celery
                       & some broccoli

Bunny also does a lot of preening & itching. I'm wondering about the itching.

My husband is laughing & calls to me to come back to the living room.  Bunny is bathing in her water bowl.
I searched in my stuff & found a flower bowl that would be similar to Shirin's bathing dish.

After she was put in her cage for the night she called to my husband,
"Come, Step up!'.  She was only in the cage for 15 min!

Monday the 14th
Bunny is up early - as Rio can hear her, he feels its only fair that he gets to greet the day as well.

Yesterday Bunny just tossed the carrots away.
Today I made a toy out of a carrot.
She really enjoys untying knots.
I retied the carrot 2 x's [you see set up 2 & 3]

Then I gave her some more broccoli

Which she tried to taste hanging up but much preferred eating a la main.

She's an almond addict - or she's using her wiles against me!

Monday - April 21st ~ Update

Bunny just hanging out

2 of Bunny's landing spots.  She's really into flying around the living/dining area.
I have this trellis I put in front of the entrance to our apt.  She & the Budgies like it.
The TV spot is a shorter flight path.

On top of the cage:
I hung her toy from the ceiling & she likes to sit by it & preen.
My son is warming up to her - she even stepped up for him.
On the trellis:
Before I got her down she lowered her head for a head scratch.
I never pushed her to be 'handled', beyond stepping up.

Now she appears to be a Pistachio fiend.
& this morning she climbed down from her cage & sneaked over to my plate.
I was having waffles - she got some & was very pleased.

Thanks to Shirin we've had a wonderful visit with Bunny.
Hope we haven't spoiled her too much.

I expect she'll be very excited to see Shirin tomorrow.

Tuesday, April 22nd
Shirin called - she'll be over in the evening to get her babe.
I think the visit went well.  Bunny was very good even though she
didn't know us.  I know she was often worried & when she was really worried
she would scurry into her cage.  Today she was even more relaxed.
I could almost see her change every day.
~ Shirin arrived and collected Bunny.  It was very clear that Bunny was happy.
They kissed & cuddled shamelessly.  My son was very impressed.
As you may know - my Budgies are not cuddly.

May
Chew Toys - they sure are exciting.

Rio & laker worked on this 1"x3" piece of Balsa wood for a day.
It looked like a giant's toothpick at the end of the day.

I have had to cover the back of Laker's cage with chew toys to redirect
Rio's efforts to take all the paint off the cage.  He kind of hides out at the back
- so I know he knows it's deviant work. *sigh & shake head*

Chipped beaks

Rio has a larger chip on the front of his beak.  Laker has one too bu t it is finer.
They were so aggressive yesterday, I gave them more things to chew.
I think they over did it.

Green Grass - Spring has sprung.

This is kind of a getting away from yesterday's chewing frenzy.
Thankfully it is now Spring.
The grasses are sending up their seed heads & our Budgies are thrilled.

I got a new job - weekends I run a Nature store - for wild birds.
How perfect is that!
