Training is going well. He really like to step-up onto the wooden handle. He will step-up onto my hand but no one elses yet.   My husband kind of spoiled Laker, while I was away.   He now thinks that we have to have a Millet Break - like a High Tea - almost Hobbit-like!

1 month anniversary                4th Week August 7th, 2006

So little time has passed & yet we've been terribly busy with our new budgie.   Everyone around here has been captivated by Budgie Magic.   Even my Step-son, home from University, is captivated.  It is so funny to see grown men walking around talking to a budgie carrying a hand-held perch.

Laker - July 3rd 2006 007.jpg  My son says that Laker reminds him of a lemon.
It must be his size or face colour & maybe his body shape!

The Cat is pretty jealous.    She has begun to insist on her time - usually when the budgie is in the same room.   However she has discovered that the bird is rarely alone for long - so an old cat would have to be very clever indeed.

We've been letting Laker out for longer amounts of time - when I'm reading or painting.   My husband is also taking time to let him out & spend time with him.

I've been playing a 'touch' the budgie game.   I either pretend to kiss his side or bump his side with a toy, piece of paper or ribbon, or a stray finger. I think i'm wearing him down.   At first he was a little fearful - running quickly away. Now he will stand his ground & look as is he's thinking of running.

- here's some video I managed to take using our Web Cam - but I  haven't found out how to add sound ~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5-XUk6MQpU & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yOCDN_qiZ0

th_LakerToy-July6th2006015[1].jpg We are trying to introduce fresh foods in a playful/exploratory manner.  I put this grape piece on a hook & he played with it for days.  He nibbles the empty grape ends but that was all.  I cut the bottom grape but it created no interest.

He still is resisting all other foods.   Bathing is still an unknown but he's beginning to 'accept' his misting baths on the Balcony when the weather is bliss.
He really seems to enjoy the balcony - something he has in common with Vive, the cat.
