July - September 2008 Laker's  Adoption Day July 3rd Summer Portraits.  Young Love Laker passed away September 18th Thanks Fluffies [Sue] for the great card - wish I knew how to copy it here... Laker with his Birthday Feast Rio helping out with the abundance. Laker has been a great gift to us over the past 2 years he as been here.  When I look at him every day I marvel at having him in my life.  That is what pets do to you - I just wish we could be less critical of our fellow humans. Here is where Laker likes to sleep & to rest even when the cage door is open.  It's up high & it is under the water bowl I have out - just in case they want a bath - but it is used for drinking mainly. Laker almost always has his constant companion Rio at his side - kind of annoying sometimes but they are getting along pretty well.  Rio seems to think everything Laker has is better. August 1st ~ A little more Laker. RIO Rio is in love with me - or my hands & toes.  He is having a bit of a crisis but I am confident that he will be OK.   Got some great shots of Laker with his feathers covering his toes. Note the belly feathers are so relaxed they are sticking out on the sides as well. & then  - not so relaxed. It is a sad day today.  Laker died this morning after a short illness - I'm glad he didn't suffer long.  They think it might have been cancer.  He was his usual self yesterday morning but after lunch he puffed up.  This was obviously not his usual puff of contentment.  I waited an hour & still he was like that.  So off to the Avian Vets.  It was costly & it was hard on him.  After the exam he didn't even bother to fix his feathers. He was so good too.  They gave him meds & fluids. I was up with him most of the evening.  At 1am he was at the bottom of the cage & between 3 & 5am he passed away. It is really hard to be happy today.  He was such great bird and my little buddy.
