Hi, it's me this time!  Mom hardly ever has time to write, but I've been really busy with adventures.  First of all, I have a new hanging java gym that is really COOL.  It was a little scary at first but now it's fun.   It's really high.

Also I've been eating a bunch of new stuff like dried fruits that I didn't like the look of before.  The orange and yellow ones are yummy.   Today I had soybeans and peas and toast for breakfast.  Then during the day I munched on a lot of celery and carrots and broccoli, also my favorite parrot bread made with apples and veggies, and also my favorite Golden Feast nibbles and some Birdie Bites cookies that are my favorite.   Then for dinner I had some corn and peas and pears, and then I got to eat some scrambled eggs that are also my favorite.    Man I was so full I couldn't even eat my bedtime oatmeal.

So here's me and my cat Fiona.   She is pretty cool but she doesn't like it at all when I chase her off the counter.   She gives me nasty looks.  But here she's being nice.

She also likes to sit in my little house.

She is kind of pretty I guess, for a cat.  Her brother lives with us too and his name is Fergus.  He's big and pretty nice to me even though I try to chase him too and sometimes I bite his tail.   But mom gets cross when I do that and then I have to go back to my perch for awhile.  We call him Mr. Big.  Sometimes I ask him to give me a head scratch but he never does, even though I know he likes them too.   Mr. Big likes my houses too.

My mom has a dog too who's really old, but she doesn't like to hang out with anybody but mom and other people types.  She is 16 and half years old and has lived in 4 states and drove all the way across the country twice . She had cancer twice too but she got better.  Her name is Ripley after the lady in the alien movie who kills monsters, only we call her The Doo. I don't know why.  I like to eat her dog food out of the can but it makes my beak pretty messy!

Here is the Fergus sleeping with Ripley.  Ripley only lets him do that because she doesn't know he's there.   Sometimes mom has to check to see if the Doo is breathing.  Oh yeah, she is also deaf, and mom says she's lucky now that I'm around, whatever that means.   It's dark because it's night and we are all sleeping.

I also decided, because I'm almost a grown-up now, that I can sit on our balcony even if mom isn't there for a few seconds.   So I like to have my breakfast there now and sing with the neighbor birds who are mostly sparrows, and some black phoebes, and the crows.    Here's me just hangin' out on the patio.

This weekend we went to the bird store to visit and look at toys and they had six babies just like me when I was 4 months old.   WOW i really want to take one of those home.  I asked and asked if I could visit with them, but they won't let me because they're still babies.  So then we went and looked at them through the nursery window and I tried knocking on the window a lot but they didn't let me in.   So we just visited a little through the window.    Then we went in to see the other grown-up parrots and I said maybe we could take one of those home instead, but they are not quite as pretty as the baby grey ones.  I wanted to play with a really pretty macaw who was blue and yellow but mom said his beak was too big.

Here's me tapping on the glass to get the baby's attention:

OK, here's the exciting part.  I started gliding in the house and could get from my perch back over to my little house.   That was fun.   I had 3 big new wing feathers in on each side, and 5 haven't come in yet.   So one day we were outside taking out the trash and there was something scary in the trash can.  So I jumped down.   Only when I flapped I just kept going and mom didn't even see where I went.  I think it was about a 100 yard touchdown flight.   But then I came down on the lawn in the park behind our apartment and hung out with a crow for awhile.  I can talk crow so that was OK.   Mom couldn't figure out where I was and kept looking under the trash bin.   But the gardener saw me flying -- they call this flying -- and he told her where I was.   Wow, that was kinda scary but kinda fun.    Anyway, mom was not sure what to do about these wing feathers cuz she likes me to fly and get exercise, but I never learned when I was a baby so it would take a lot of work for it to go right.  Plus my cousin Moby who was a pigeon who could fly really really REALLY well got bit by a hawk one day and mom was really sad.   We had to put Moby to bed under a tree after that and now she doesn't live with us anymore. I saw it from my window too and it made me really scared.  I don't remember it much now, but mom says I "freaked out" (that's how she talks.)   Anyway, we went out to the park again and mom put me on the chin-up bar, and then walked away a little and called me.  I know I can do this, but it was kinda scary.   So finally I jumped off and wow I went right to her, only man I don't know how to stop and instead I sort of got turned around and I went all the way down the park.   I was flying real kind of low like so it wasn't TOO scary at first, but then I still couldn't stop and I went across the street and bumped into a bush on the other side.   Then I stood in the dirt for awhile.  I thought that was probably a good thing, and so did mom, but she still complained that I don't have a clear exit strategy or something.   And well, I really didn't want to fly so much after that, so I sat on my patio and was quiet for awhile.   Now my wing feathers got clipped again like before, only mom is going to let me keep enough of my new ones that haven't come in yet so I can learn to fly and get trained and then next year maybe we'll try again.  But right now mostly I like to climb and swing and go to the beach.

Here's me just being goofy at work.

OK, so bye for now.

XOXO Carly Lu

p.s. If you have any babies you want me to take care of you can drop them by and they can live with us.  I really like grey babies especially, even the big ones who are grown-ups.
