Kacey's newest trauma: Toe troubles! On March 24th I was getting ready to leave home to attend a bird fair in Wheaton, Il. It is a once a year deal and I couldn't make it last year. Kacey was eating breakfast on the kitchen table after I got done doing therapy on her wing, when I noticed blood all over the table! I got hold of Kacey thinking she some how broke a blood feather in her wing, she has a lot coming in. I looked her over and couldn't tell right off where all the blood was coming from. So I took her to the sink to wash off the blood and look where she was bleeding from, it was then I noticed she had a small hang nail on her left front big toe that had broke off close to the vein. Every time she walked on it blood came out. I then held her while my dad got the bird clippers and clipped off the hang nail. I then took a moist piece of scott towel with a clump of baking soda in it and held it to Kacey's toe till the bleeding stopped. It took 10 minutes to get the bleeding to stop. I just couldn't understand how one minute she is fine and the next she has a broken toenail. There was nothing on the table to cause that to happen. I think it has to do with her having bad genetics. She is constantly breaking tail and wing feathers for no reason. Kacey will never have a long tail. She is still in her neck collar for wing protection. She visits the vet April 13th to see if get collar off and how will do without it. I hope she behaves without it. Kacey and the vet are getting to know each other quite well. Sometimes Kacey yells at the vet whan she isn't happy. Kacey will always be our little special needs birdy. We love her so much.
