Don't think you should be very worried about your bird getting the disease. For the moment domestic poultry has been the virus' main host. I think there is more concern to be showed about a possible transmission of the bird to humans. Anyway just keep watching the news but don't panic and keep your common sense. Here is a good place to start for any bird flu related information : bird flu center

I have talk to my Avain Vet, he has his own lab and is involued in the national effort to find the cure for the birds. He is not to concerned at this point. The flu is tranmited mostly through "Po". So closely supervising your bird and limiting his out of house experence should reduce the risk. He is more worried about the public sector over reacting. In Ca, (I think) the goverment killed alot of pet birds over another simlar problem. I am not sure of the details. But my Vet is more worried abot that.

Mad That's the one thing that worries me too Mad And the manner in which they kill these poor birds is so cruel and inhumane. Watching it on the news made me cry Crying or Very sad Mad

Oh, sorry, but I'm not so sure ... For example, in the ten things to know about avian flu, I believe numbers 4,5,6,7,and 8 MIGHT be possibilities, but they are listed as inevitable. I think they are trying to scare people. And if you'll notice, the site promises to bring you the latest "stories"; not the latest facts. Also, there are a slew of advertisers linked with the page, selling face masks (which are a joke because they do not seal to the face), flu kits, drugs, vaccines... It appears to me that they are preying on people by instilling them with fear in order to take their money.

The five "most frequent bird flu symptoms" they present are identical to those of the same, ol' ordinary 'flus that go around every year. Are they trying to instill panic? If everyone floods the emergency rooms with these non-life threatening symptoms, those who really need help may not get it in time. Wouldn't it be more ethical to just tell people what symptoms merit a trip to the doctor's?

I admit, I did not throughly explore the site due to my negative reaction to it, but I certainly did not notice any headlines about the wild birds that have already built an immunity to the disease or how to support your body's natural defenses against viruses.

Please understand, Bbogdanleo, I agree with your advise, I just didn't like the link. There is some valid information at that site, but I dislike the way it is presented.
