Health assurance?  Reply with quote

Does anyone know if there are health insurances for our birds?
I was wondering this as the costs for medical care can be very high! Sad

Here in the Netherlands, we don't have health insurance.. Sad

Sue at my vet I've only seen brochures (sp?) for dogs and cats, but I'm almost certain I've seen ads for health insurance for birds somewhere. I think it was an American company. I'll try to find it. I don't think we have it here in Canada either Sad I agree it would be nice, since medical care for our fids is so costly.

Over here it is too expensive (high premiums and doesn't cover much) but apparently some insurers will cover pets in their home insurance.

I have often thought about looking into more for my fids too. I've seen info about it in pamplets at the vets ofc, but never paid a whole lot of attention to it.

Sue, I suppose that after what Flit has been thru, you've probably racked up some vet bills. I guess just like with any other kind of insurance, it's great to have when you do need it, but we always just hope that we never will need it. And of course, if you never need it, it's money that's thrown away.

Hi Sue,

I have found a couple in the parrots magazine that I get..

Here are the websites - do not know if they will cover Europe or not?

Prehaps send an e-mail and ask??

here are the sites

www.exoticdirect.co.uk

or

an e-mail address of gvinsurance@aol.com

Let me know how you get on...

I have looked into the pet insurance because I thought it would be a good idea, but, the problem is, it is quite costly for birds because of the ages they can reach and the premium is higher, MUCH higher with age. Also, this is kinda dumb, if you end up with a high vet bill that you can't pay right away, say a couple thousand dollars, you still have to pay the bill FIRST and THEN they reimburse you Confused You may as well just put $100+ away every month for just such an emergency because that is how much it will cost you every month anyway! I think they need to come up with a better plan Sad

Hmmm thanks! I feel a bit left out here in the Netherlands.
Flit's illness cost like 450 euros.. Sad Non that I would doubt spending that, but.. Assurance would be a wonderful thing for these things. (I hope he'll never get sick again)

Oh, of course you'd spend what ever you had to Sue, but an unexpected sudden expense like that sure takes a bite out of the pocket, don't it Crying or Very sad
You know, if that website Fi linked to, doesn't extend to where you live, you might want to seriously start thinking about opening a seperate savings, or just socking a bit of money away here & there like CM said, make regular deposits in it to save for just such a thing. THAT'S what I really need to start doing! I know I'd be really strapped if that expense suddenly came up for me!

Yeah it sure took a bite out of my pocket.. It has a hole now! Laughing Luckily I save money for these incidents and my mother was really kind to help me too.. Smile She knows how much my fids mean to me. Smile

It's sad that these assurances don't extend to where I live. I feel a bit left out.. Sad

Awww, that's so good that your mom was able to help you out Very Happy I guess I wouldn't want to see any of my kids beloved pets suffer either.
