Macaw-eye question  Reply with quote

Maj has been getting little red blotches around the top of his eye-not the actual eye itself but the skin around it which as he is a military macaw is white skin...but as soon as they come they have gone again within the day and it doesnt appear to bother him in any way. There is no other health issue I can see or am aware of just these red blotches...I am tempted to make an appointment with the vet but I tend to panic and end up going when he is actually alright! I so worry! I wondered if anyone has come across this with there macaw or knows what it may be before I rush off to the vet with him Question Question thanks

Foreverlearning.. Could it be that he's excited? Macaws blush when they are excited I think? At least, Donny & Cherry did. Especially when one had been playing in the garden & the other one was left behind. When they saw each other, they would blush!

Yeah I did wonder about that Sue, but im certain it isnt part of the blushing as these blotches last for serveral hours, were as he will bush for a few minutes at a time Confused

this is probably a shot in the dark.... Laughing
but maybe he has dry skin?
but you say he doesn't really bother with it much....
hmm.
(this is my attempt to help!)
Laughing
but it's probably nothing serious....just red patches....
but it wouldn't hurt anything (except your wallet Wink ) to have him checked out by a vet.....
better safe than sorry, right?
