I need to do some painting in the sitting room of my one bedroom flat....I thought only gloss paint was a problem with Major (my macaw) but ive phoned the vet to double check and they have advised taking major out the way totally to paint the walls because birds such different respiratory systems to us ...SO...what to do I dont know what to do now as my only option would be to put maj in my bedroom with the tv on and put some of his fav toys in there with him etc but I dont think he is going like that idea but its me and him...what can I do? Wondering if anyone has any advice? Knows anymore about paint...am using emulsion on the walls. Should I put maj in my room will he be okay do you think or not thanks for any help |

Is there anyone you know who could keep him for a few days for you? I would SO volunteer if I lived closer
I wouldn't really recommend even keeping him in any room in the house, as I would think the fumes would seep in, even tho you might not be able to smell it? Did the vet say anything about that?
IF you have no choice but to leave him in your room, maybe you could wait until the weather is nice & you could leave windows open, fans on for ventilation for a few days. |

But thanks for all the advice Cathy...I have changed plans and am going to wallpaper instead so no painting for now anyway. Will look better anyway I was just opting for the less work option |

Well, I know how you feel about leaving him with any one else.
I've only had to leave Manu twice since he's been with me. Luckily, my step daughter, who has 3 B&G macaws her self, & a number of smaller birds, lives right here in town & I do trust her to care for Manu for a short while at a time. |

Cathy, those are AMAZING photos. How did you daughter come to share her life with 3 macaws?? I bet they make alot of noise. Are they related to Manu in any way? |

Thanks Kellyanne, I do love those photos No, her birds aren't related at all to Manu.
I's hard finding someone you can trust to look after such a big bird for you, as most people are somewhat scared of them. |

Tee hee, I can't tell them apart either. I know what you mean by people being scared of them Cathy.. even I'm pretty nervous around those big beaks! I haven't tried petting the ones I've see at the bird store yet because they don't look too friendly.. |
