It's very hard to provide them with 10 to 12 hrs of unbroken sleep, since in the wild they are very alert to predators & sleep lightly.

I read a suggestion of putting the bird in a cage in the closet! I don't cover my bird because she seemed nervous about not being able to keep an eye on the cats. (She won't even use a hut.) Imagine what fun to crawl out of bed, open you closet, and be greeted by your bird!
