That is wonderful Shirin!!! I love to hear stories like this! Yea!!! It is so hard to say how they can get a bacterial infection. Sometimes birds who have visibly dirty conditions can escape an infection... Starion got it at the handfeeder's, but I heard that was common.
Again, I am so happy for you and little Walnut!

Yiehaaaaaaaaaaaa! That is great news Shirin! I was a bit hesitant to open this topic. Glad I did and to read that Walnut is doing sooo much better.
Please don't try to think you were the reason. Birds SHOULD have some resistance. Perhaps her immune system was a little weaker and thus the bacteria were able to do this. |

Phew, I was worried for both of ya for a while there and she has been through soo much this year...
I bet you were soo happy to see her running across the floor...
Have you thought about soaking those dishes in apple vinegar or something no toxic like that... Just a thought
I am lucky cos I have stainless steel round bowls for Pi cage...

Thanks Fi , yes, I was definitely ecstatic to see her run accross the floor! What a champion she is Although I bet she hates me for force feeding her the yucky medicine but it's for her own good
That's a good idea about soaking the dishes. I think I will buy some round dishes anyway, and use a round one for water, just to be safe. |

So I went for Walnut's follow up appointment today, and all is well The vet said it must have been an infection in her kidney, just as I thought. She's doing very well, and has gained 2 grams!!! |

oh girl, I'm soooo glad for both you and walnut...sorry I haven't been on the forum much, and have missed a lot of posts here. I'm just glad that she's back to normal and has gain weight!! that's great news!!
oh and with cleaning water bowls and dishes and stuff... if you want to be absolutely sure, when you wash it, rinse it once with bleach, that will kill off any bacteria that you can't get your scrub to. Then give the bowl/dish a good rinsing of hot water. works like a charm. Some people believe it or not even uses bleach to wash seeds/beans before sprouting them. Apparently the bleach particles is too big to fit through the 'hole' that the seeds have so it is safe. I still won't do that yet, but I do wash bowls and dishes in bleach every so often. but of course make sure that they are all well rinse and wash the bleach off before refilling them for the birds. |
