| Walnut is back at the vets again :( |
|
|
Today Walnut was out for her daily flight time, but after a while I noticed Blueberry was alone, and Walnut was no where in sight. I looked everywhere, and listened for her coos, but nothing. Finally after 3 hours I heard a single coo coming from the kitchen and found her sitting behind my espresso machine. She seemed fine, she flew away and her flight was fine. But when she went back into the cage I noticed her right leg was totally limp and was just hanging down, she could not perch on it
Anyway, after I called and begged to be seen by the vet, they squeezed me in at the last minute just before they closed, and checked her leg. The vet didn't feel any breaks, but Walnut's 3 front toes are unresponsive. The vet said that it could be one of two things, that she either pulled the nerve that controls her leg causing temporary paralysis, or it could be that she has kidney disease, causing her kidney to swell and thus press on that nerve. She said this leg paralysis is often seen in budgies when they grow tumors on the kidney, but in this case it's probably kidney disease.
So because it was the end of the day, I had to leave Walnut at the vets for over night, so they can run blood tests and x-rays tomorrow morning.. I'm quite worried about her. She has been through so much this year.. first her beak injury, and now this. She has also lost 5 grams since our last visit Poor thing |

My condolences to you & Walnut & Blueberry.
This is a sad time - I'll be thinking of you.

it's one thing after the other...
The vet just called me, and she said that her x-rays show that there's no breaks or dislocations, but that her bones look very faint and that she has a calcium deficiency on top of whatever is going on with her leg and kidney
I know that she is more than likely not getting proper nutrition because although she can eat pretty normally when her lower bill is shortened to match the top one, she has difficulty eating properly as her lower bill grows. And it grows so rapidly that to keep it in check I'd have to visit the vet like every 3 weeks, and I can't... I'm already completely broke because of this I don't know what else to do.. For now the vet is giving me liquid calcium to add to her water, but said not to make any changes to her diet until we get the blood results.
I have to wait 3 days for the blood test results to come in, so we can know what is going on with her kidney.. I really can't handle any more bad news |

Oh! I am so sorry to hear about poor Walnut and how much stress it has caused you I know all about spending mass amounts of money at the vet, and it is no fun. You're right that there is no cheap bird when they're taken care of properly!

Thank you Julie. I have brought her home, and she is very lethargic, she has been sitting all puffed up all day. I'm so scared that I might lose her |

She's doing as well as can be expected. Her leg is still paralyzed. It breaks my heart to watch her struggle to perch or walk
The blood results aren't in yet. |

Oh Shirin, please hang in there... I know what it feels like what you are going through. It is so worrisome waiting for test results!
