| What to do if your bird is ill? |
|
|
I asked my avian vet what to do if a bird is ill..
Besides the call you have to make to your vet
(DO NOT FORGET THIS!)
you can..
- get a thermo bulb above the cage, with a distance of 30 cm from the bird. Your bird MUST have a choice to 'escape' from it!
- put the bird on a quiet place
- spray the bird OFTEN with HOT water. (The mist has cooled down when it falls on the bird, please test first!) Please keep in mind that a little spraying will do.
NO SOAKING!
The idea behind spraying is to create a 'tropical' (humid) environment.
Your bird needs to get some fresh air daily, even when ill. (Please keep the temperature in mind!) Five minutes will do.
This is to prevent sunlight, which is very important!

I wonder how Picasso would go in the sauna, I can adjust the temprature and humidity and I'd be in there with him, I always thought it would be a good way to bring him good if he had any problems late at night till I could get him to the vet the next day, I know it straightens me out if I'm sick. I just have to rug up before I get out because of the change in temp |

I don't know Shell.. Saunas are dry, aren't they?
(But if you can adjust the temperature AND humidity, why not? Please make sure not to get it too hot please!) |

thanks for this info! I once read that infrared bulbs are best because they provide heat, but also stimulate bloodblow beneath the feathers - is this true?

but never bring your bird outside without a leash or in a travel cage, even when your birds wings are cliped when they can still fly a mile |

If they're properly clipped and tested the chances are not very likely.. But I wouldn't recommend taking them outside with strong winds! |
