Is Choo Choo molting? The white flakes could be the wax that covers a pin feather. When they preen the new pin feathers, the wax breaks off and looks kinda like dandruff.

Yeah, it sounds to me like she might be molting, a perfectly normal thing that all birds go thru periodically.
You might notice her being a bit more grumpy, or moody, or not wanting to be handled or pet as much, but that's not always the case.
They must get awful itchy when those new feathers come in & frequent misting with a spray bottle of warm water, even daily if possible, helps soften the sheaths that surround the new feathers coming in, making it easier for the birdie.

Oh White flake glarour!! haha... I went through that with Apollo just not too long ago, and boy do I look like I have dandruff after having him on my shoulder at night!! LOL

One way to check to see if it's from the new pin feathers is to run your hand through the neck area of your bird if you can and see if you can feel any hard and pointy bits. That's new feathers. Very Happy Just be realy gentle with it that's all, they are sensitive during this time.

molting sounds a heck of alot better than some kind of bug...I didn't know how he could have gotten mites...he's not around other birds or animals (other than my cat..which doesn't go outside)...his cage is kept clean..but maybe they can catch something in the air...this bird thing is new to me...but the one thing I know for sure..is I would NEVER clip his wings, myself...I would always choose a good avian vet to do it...I think you can skimp on some things..but wing clipping..in my opinion..is a job for a professional...there are just to many things that can go wrong...thanks again

I feel the same way about wing clipping casmeer. Some people are fine doing it themselves, & I really wish I COULD, but I just don't have the confidence, so I leave it to the vet.

I know the experience even with my petite little bird, I get covered in little white flakes after he's had a good preen Smile Lucky me he doesn't bite too hard and I have a special way of holding him so he doesn't try taking a chunk out of me while I clip him - he doesn't enjoy it much but when its over he makes a big effort to preen all the feathers that got messed up while I was holding him Razz Such a vain little bird! Laughing
