| Beautiful Female Eclectus |
|
|
When I went into PetCo today, there was a table set up inside the store with a couple handing out adverts for an upcoming bird fair here in town. With them was this gorgeous female ekkie which they posed for this picture, & gave me permission to post here.

She was so beautiful! The color around her eyes looks grey in the photo, but it was actually a brilliant blue! And her wings were kind of a deep purple color - just brilliant! And she was SO very well mannered!
I gave the couple the name of this forum & they may check it out.
And I will be going to the Bird Fair May 7th. Of course I wont be bringing home a bird, but I'm looking forward to looking anyway |

The Eclectus's are so beautiful arent they Cathy. I have always wanted to have one. Did you notice the way their feathers almost look like hair around their neck? The males are brilliant too. |

My step daughter has a male & a female eclectus (last I heard anyway), tho I've only seen one of hers once & I don't recall it being quite so colorful, tho it was beautiful, all I remember of it is a brilliant green color. Are they all different colors?
No, I didn't notice the feathers around her neck But I'm going to go study that picture again! |

Oh oh oh.. I want an ecclectus!!! that's such a pretty little girl..
Cathy, the Ekkies are generally mostly green as a male and girl are generally red. This one is opposite when it comes to male being the colourful one, not that male isn't pretty. but girl ekkies look better. LOL..
I do love their feathers. they're soooo course in comparison to other birdies' feathers!! It does in a way remind me of horse hair but finer!! If that made any sense.. hehe |

I'm glad you all like the picture! I was very star struck with this beauty, as well as with her composure!
Bih, that one of Kendras that I did see must have been her male then. I was only in the house for a couple of minutes & was kind of overwhelmed with all her birds (& ALL the yapping dogs ), so I didn't have much chance to linger, but I do remember that I was very struck by the gorgeous, rich green color! |

Get to see quite a lot of eclectus here in Singapore occasionally when they are " in season".
There are several sub-species
Some are just breath-taking!
Although they look quiet, my friend who owns two say they can be pretty loud if they want to! |

My step daughter has said the same thing about her eclectus.
But, at her house, one has to be LOUD to be heard above all the other birds & dogs, LoL!
I think she wanted to eventually breed hers, but now I'm not even sure she's still got both of them. |

Personally I prefer the males with their brilliant green and candy corn beaks. There was someone years back on another list that had a pair named Crimson and Clover. I thought they were such perfect names.
Here's a page that shows some of the color differences in the different subspecies.

I wish i had enough time, money, space, energy, etc. for one of every type of bird. Oh wait, that's a different thread.
