This is very true, my vet said the same thing. I also think that tearing the chics away from their parents is really cruel And it's such an unnecessary thing to do the chics can be just as tame, if you just handle them from a young age. You don't have to feed them with a syringe for them to like you |

We saw some pretty Eclectus birds at the store, but there were signs on the cages saying they were babies and weren't ready to be handled yet, so we just had a good look and moved on. Hubby was fascinated by the colours. |

I've heard different things too Gemma. But, as far as I know, ekkies are not known as naturally loud birds, like I've heard about some species, like conures. |

From the sound of it males are much better pets than females and ekkies in general will be quiet in a quiet enviroment and loud in a noisy enviroment I think they would be great if you only had one or two ther small parrots

Hi... just saw this topic I have Gryffin a female Grand Eclectus. Eclectus are known to have different feeding requirements, as their digestive system is a bit different from most parrots, and they are also very hyper-sensitive to vitamins, suplements and food coloring which can cause problems that you don't have to worry about in other parrots. They have an unusual behavior of 'freezing' in place as if to be spacing out or daydreaming. This is unique to Eclectus and from that, they have gotten a reputation of being dull and lifeless, but they are extremely intelligent. More introverts than extroverts, they are usually reserved, but once they open up they love to play and are one of the best talkers (though like any species, they don't all talk). Eclectus are not known to be cuddly or like a lot of petting, though some do, especially Solomon Island variety. They are very independent which is good for a busy lifestyle. They say they tend to appreciate a more quiet less chaotic home environment as a Grey would. Eclectus typically are quiet for larger parrots. While they can use a loud voice, it is not used often, and they are not quite as loud as other birds the same size. Both males and females can be moody and territorial even as youngsters, but males are more popular as pets, and might be more even keel after maturity.
There is a great and well known website dedicated to Eclectus out there, but I can't post it here since they have a forum too! I'd say before considering an Eclectus, take the time to learn about all the specifics... they are different in a lot of way from other parrots, and are not considered a beginners bird. They certainly are gorgeous to look at though |

It would depend on what your personally think "quiet" is... We might all have a slightly different definition on that!
Also, when people talk about bird noise, it is not often specified if they really mean 'noisy' as opposed to 'loud'. So to the best of my ability, I will tell you about Eclectus sounds
Loudness:
They are a larger parrot, so yes...at full blast, they can be much louder in volume than a smaller bird. You bet!! However, they are not as loud as Cockatoos!
Noisiness:
I believe that they get their quiet repuation since
typically,
they do not use their loudest voice frequently, say the way B&G Macaws tend to. Gryffin is not real noisy as far as frequency of loud sounds go, but she goes loud maybe once or twice a day. I have heard of some Eclectus that are noisier than others, but as a general species rule, they don't scream excessively.
Other Noises:
When Gryffin is making a noise, it is usually practicing talking or mumbling with funny tones of voice. Sometimes screaming for a little while at half volume Ekkies are said to have voices like little girls! It's true... some people also say they sound like they are talking into a can (sort of muffled and funny). I can see that too. They have a very amusing tone of voice that just can't be described, but it is entertaining to hear
My Red Bellied parrot on the other hand, is not too loud in volume, but makes noise very frequently!
I hope that helped a little...

Well, I live in an apartment, but they are pretty tolerant with pet noise around here I have a friend who has an Umbrella Cockatoo in an apartment too, so it really depends on where you live.
The Eclectus are not as loud as an M2 or some larger birds, but they ARE MUCH LOUDER than any small bird even loud conures... They typically don't scream all day long, but honestly, when you hear their full blast call, it is VERY loud!!! It makes me jump right out of my seat at times.

The Cockatiel across the street from me is SOO noisy!! Sometimes he literally makes noise all afternoon long for hours. So, even a Cockatiel can be extremely noisy!
In general, the larger the bird, the louder the noise. Remember, even a medium sized or large bird who doesn't make noise often, still is capable of a very powerful loud blast when it wants to.

Eclectus birds are very beautiful, but are very loud at moment. They really like to communicate thoe and they are highly intelligent. |
