I have a female Grand Eclectus. Gryffin seems typical of what I've read in the past about female Ekkies. She is very independent, and while she likes attention, and will preen my hair, she is not cuddly and prefers not to be petted. She has a very strong willed dominant personality and she is not even mature yet. She is almost a year old.
I've heard of plenty of cuddly females, but then I've heard of a lot who are like Gryffin. In general, it is not typical for Eclectus to be cuddly, though the popular Solomon Island variety are known to probably be the most likely of the subspecies to be cuddly.
I've also heard of and seen males and females with similar personality characteristics, so that probably depends more on the bird than the sex.
Gryffin is quiet for a larger bird. Even the full blast alarm call which is not heard too often... it is loud, but not nearly as loud as you'd expect from her size. |

Update on Gryffin (female Grand subspecies Eclectus)...She is a year old, and she goes full blast more often now. They say Ekkies are 'quiet' for larger birds, but depends on what you're comparing to . They can be 'quieter' than a Blue and Gold Macaw, or most of the Cockatoos and other large birds, but they blow away any small bird in terms of volume. The full blast noise is VERY loud. I wanted to say that since it has been asked before about the Eclectus noise.

Julie, can you get some of her sound on tape? And post it in your diary? I'm quite curious what kind of sound she makes! |

I would love to do that, but I don't know if I can catch it at just the right moment!
A couple people who've said they have heard adult Eclectus and Slender Billed Cockatoos, say they are both loud, but the Ekkies really might be more powerful in voice! We shall see...
Since I've heard Macaws, Toos, and other larger birds at bird stores, I can say they are more or less just as loud as any big bird in terms of volume, even though their bodies are not as big.
