| My eclectus is eating her poop please help |
|
|
Hi I have only had my solomon island eclectus for a few months she's five months old now but she just recently started eating her wet poop. She only does it when she is on the play area on the top of her cage. She like to chew the newspaper I put up there but now she has started eating the parts that she has just pooped on. I don't know if she does this because it is soggy but she drops water on the paper too and doesn't play with that. For now I am just trying to clean it up every time but sometimes I'm not fast enough. Does anyone know why she is doing this? |

I don't know why your ekkie is doing this.. With dogs I believe that they lack some kind of nutrient? So I've heard at least.
By the way, welcome to this site! |

I have heard that
could
be a sign that the bird has parasites (intestinal worms). I would definitely have an avian vet do a fecal exam. |

I am by no means an expert, but I would have a tenancy to agree with Sue. Look toward the diet.

Thanks for welcoming me I've gotten a lot of useful information already. I'm a first time parrot owner although my fiance has had many (but never an Eclectus). Her name is Elly and even though I was apprehensive I love her already. As for her diet we feed her a small amount of natural colored pellets and then she usually eats some sort of vegetable in the morning she likes carrots or broccoli or some sort of leafy vegetable. Sometimes she gets what I have if its eggs or somthing she can eat. Later I usually have some fruit so she gets some of that but mostly I try to make sure she gets a vegetable or a mix of some. Is there anything else she might be missing? |

Hi Jaime, could it be that she's not responding well to the colored pellets? I have heard that ekkies can respond strange on a pelleted diet. What the truth is about this rumours, I don't know. (I don't live with an ekkie) |

Yes, I have heard this too. I have never lived with an ekkie myself, but my step daughter feeds all of her paroots fruity, colored pellets, except her ekkies, which she only feeds the natural/organic type. |
