If that's the case then it means that food are going in him. What I would recommend also is get yourself a kitchem gram scale, and weigh gun every week if you're game enough to do that.. This would then indicate to you if he's eating enough of not.. If he loose weight dramatically... I think 10percent... then something needs to be done. A vet visit is recommended then.... Record the weight down somewhere so you can see if there's any improvement or if it's getting worse.
Funny thing with hook billed as I've found with cockatoos and parakeets... I'm sure it's the same with the rest of parrots, is that they like grinding their food up, and in the process which we don't usually see is the ground up food actually going into it's stomach!!
May be just a suggestion... keep his parrot food in there for him all day, and check on it every now and then to see if he's eaten any... don't give him anything else during the day though even if you think he's not eating enough... and if he hasn't, give him some food at night that he'll eat before putting him to bed...Parrots should never go to bed with an empty crop. Eventually he'll pick up that he's not getting any food other then the ones in the cage already...and if he's hungry he'll have to eat them.
I know it's preobably not much better then human food, but does Taylor eat seeds? |

You know what, I haven't tried seeds yet. I've been giving him the kind of seeds we eat and he likes those. I should go to the pet store and purchase a bag and see if he likes it. thanks for the advice |

yeah Tina, go to the pet store to pick him up some seeds. Our seeds (people seeds) contain a lot of salt and sugar. Not good for our fids. Peanuts are generally sold there also, unsalted. Sunflower seeds too and feed corn. Chaquita likes to eat the soft spot on the corn and generally wastes the rest. You'll be amazed at just how much a bird can waste.
Since he likes hot dogs, maybe cut the hot dog up into small pieces and place them into his dish through the bars into is other food. Offer him a piece like he normally takes food through the bars and show him that you're putting it in his dish. |

Hi Tina...
Obviously an all seed diet isn't that healthy for the bird either, but I guess it's a start in the right direction to get him off so much human food. I guess the way I see is if he's happy to eat seed off the bowl by himself, then you can weaned him off the bar feeding and also human food, slowly you can convert him to a pellet diet...
Others may have different opinion to me though about feeding birds seeds diets. Oh as with sunflower seeds its better to feed that in moderation as it is very fatty in content so it's not too good for bird to be on it all the time. |
