| acrilic paint?? |

Is this ok to use with birds around??? or should I get my grandma to look after them while I paint my wall?
My fids now have a wardrobe from Ikea (there they call it a "Vesby" or something) its a thing with plastic walls, no back part, wood to hold up the plastic walls, and 2 shelves at the bottum, and a metal bar (for clothes) at the top, and a white curtain at the front. I have added some perches, toys, and newspaper, and I want to add plastic plants and paint a jungle scene on the back.
So is acrilic paint safe?

A friend of mine works as a painter and he says that no paint is toxic for humans nowadays. But since parrots are very sensitive and have complicated respiratory systems I think it might be a good idea to at least move your bird to another room and keep the door closed until the paint is dry. |

More and more people are becoming chemically sensitive-- their disorder is called MCS or multiple chemical sensitivity. Many of them get sick from wall paint, even if it is acrylic, until it is dry and has out-gassed. Therefore, I agree. Better to move the birds until there is absolutely no odor left! |

also while painting, have a window open in the room to help ventilate any fumes or such. its also safer painting with an open window for both you and the birds. |

I meant latex acrylic wall paint. "House paint"-- if you mean what the outside of a house is painted with, has mold-killing chemicals in it. "Mold-killing" means something that kills and organism, so it should be considered toxic and NEVER used on indoor walls or items. I don't know it the fumes from artist's paint would be potent enough to hurt a bird just because the amount of paint would be so little. However, the pigments in artist's paints can be extremely toxic (like cadmium), so it would be dangerous to allow a bird to get into them or the rinse water for your brushes. |
