Apple Cider Vinegar?  Reply with quote

I know this is supposed to be good for cleaning poop off the cage and perches. But I thought I heard it is good to put a few drops in the drinking water. is this correct? I wanted to ask before I tried it with Luna.

My avian vet told me to add a few drops of water to Manus drinking water (he was having clear liquid icky poops). What I do now is add 1/4 tsp to a gallon of water that I use for both him & my 'tiel.

I wonder what the vinegar does for them? I know that in people vinegar or wine in small amounts is supposed to be healthy and flush out the body.

I think I'll add just a bit to Luna's water as well. I'll be getting my first bag of Harrison's tomorrow, and I can't wait to see if she will try it. LOL Probably not, butI am hopeful. Smile

Just take it very slowly with the change of diet!

I don't know exactly what the vinegar does, but a lot of people on this forum use it for lots of things! I wash their food & water bowls with dish soap & A C vinegar too.

Yeah, I know. I hope Luna will try it without too much fuss though. But I'll be patient and see what happens.

Hi Wys, Flit was recommended apple vinegar because he had mega bacteria. I don't know the exact English name for it..
It is used to sour the bird's internal environment.
Here's some more info

A C Vinegar is a great tool for cleaning. My birds can't stand it in their water. SOme birds do. I use GSE, Grape Seed Extract. http://www.landofvos.com/artic.....s/gse.html I got this off the Land Of Vos web site,http://www.landofvos.com

ACV is suppose to kill bacteria in your birds body, but my vet said that the GSE is more effective then ACV.

Hope this helps.

Oh ok, good info. I have been putting a bit of ACV in her drinking water. And I see her drink often, so it seems she doesn't mind it. I'm glad to know that is it good for them. I want to have a healthy bird!
I also used it to clean the cage. It really works great! Better than anything else I have ever tried. (I used to have a Cockatiel some years ago.) Bird safe and effective, wonderful!
