| Bathing twice a day |
|
|
Dobby gets droppings ALL OVER HIMSELF ( beak, feathers and even under claws) while sleeping. So I shower him in the morning, then we take him outside were he again gets VERY filthy. So I bathe him again. Is this OK? He has his own towel, and I keep him in there untill he dries completly ( unless in is BOILING hot) so there shouldn't be any danger of him catching a cold, should there??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? |

How is he getting droppings on hismself? Is his cage cleaned regularly? How big is his cage? Does he sleep on a perch or on the bottom of the cage?
I can understand if he sometimes accidentally steps in poop, but how is he getting it on his beak and feathers? I wouldn't worry about him catching a cold from showering, but I would worry about why he's letting himself get dirty. Birds are very clean animals, and almost obsessive about grooming and keeping their feathers clean and tidy. So for a bird to be that dirty that he needs to be showered twice a day, makes me think somethings wrong with him. For example when one of my birds was sick recently, she couldn't perch or walk, so she was pooping while sitting on the floor of the cage, and so she soiled her underside feathers. But a healthy bird would never let him/herself get soiled like that. |

He sleeps in a birdie tent with his teddy bear. I am guessing he poops in his sleep and that explains why he gets poop in his feathers. I am however, stumped on how he gets it on his beak. My mom says that babies over all poop more than adults, is that true for birds? As for his cage, it isn't very wide but quite tall. We are looking for a new one but it is either too small, too large bar spacing, or too pricy. The other reason I bathe him is because we go to the park were I let him have grass and flowers (after meking sure they are perfectly safe). As a result Dobby gets pollen and grass all over himself and because everything is sticky, I bathe him again. Is bathing once every day OK? Is bathing several tymes a week OK in the winter/fall

H'm ok, yeah I guess if he sleeps in the tent it's easier to touch the poop. Don't worry about the bathing, as long as he likes it, it's fine to do it daily. I'd say once a day is enough though, and do it in the mornings so he has enough time during the day to dry up before bed time. You don't want him going to sleep with wet feathers. Also wash the birdie tent regularly too |
