I read somewhere that cedar chips can make birds feathers fall out....is this true?

ummm what's a cedar chips?

Isn't cedar wood poisonous to birds?? or am I confused with other woods

I don't know if Cedar wood is or not.....
I saw a vid. somewhere of a bird that was completely bald all over........they said it was because he was housed with cedar chips as bedding.....

I don't think you're confused.....
chips of cedar wood...that's what I'm assuming you're thinking Wink

Cedar shavings are extremely toxic for birds, I believe they cause allergic reactions and dermatitis as well, which I would imagine can cause the feathers to fall out.

Why, do you use them?

no......but my mom's coworker just got a pair of 'Tiels, and he was gonna put cedar chips in the nest box....
I told him a big fat NOOOO!
I was just gonna triple check on here to make sure I was right that they were harmful......

there's just not alot of info about it on the web and the cedars negative effects....some sites actually encouraged it!!!
