Crying Time Again  Reply with quote

You guys I get so angry to have my finches die and not to know why Evil or Very Mad I don't know if it has something to do with banding many of them the other day or not. Maybe they got stressed? Anyway yesterday I went out and found one of my fledgings dead and it's mother. Today I go out and find another baby dead and it's father. These are my yellow faced gouldians and they have 4 babies well 2 left now. The 2 babies were banded on Sunday. The parents were already banded so we didn't have to fool with them. I do have avairy and all the birds were flying around ya know how they do when you are trying to catch one, they all get scared. Lucky the two babies can eat on their own and they are in with societys so they will feed them too if they start crying. I also have one baby from another clutch and everytime it falls on the ground I pick it up. Either it can't fly yet because it hasn't learned how or something is wrong with it. The societys are feeding it here and there but I'm still worried. I have not had much luck with my gouldians since I bouth them last year and it really is depressing. I don't know how many more I will loose before it is over Crying or Very sad I have to go to work but tonight if I come home and find another dead brid I'm taking those babies out of there and putting them in a cage and hope they know how to eat on their own, they all should be able to eat millet I would think and seed at this stage. Any help would be welcome!Dana

Dana, I'm so sorry to hear about your finches. I don't know very much about smaller birds but have you had a vet look at them or test them for possible causes of death? Are your birds outside all the time? Just wondering if it could be weather related or something outside affecting them. A friend of mine just lost her mini-macaw when it died coming out of anesthesia. It is so painful when one of our feathered babies die. I hope you can determine the cause. It does sound like it could have been stress related with the babies but I question that with the parents because you said they weren't banded at the same time. I will keep my fingers crossed for you tonight that this is just an unfortunate occurrence and all the rest will be happy and healthy. Keep us posted and again I'm really sorry for your loss Dana. Karen

I am sorry I cannot be of any help.. I can ofcourse help you thinking this over, but I cannot give you any good advice. I never had small birds like you have.. Sad

I know what ya mean and thank you so much. I really haven't had any luck with these gouldians that I bought last year. Everytime I think I'll have some to enjoy something happens to them. Dana

Oh, I'm very sorry too to hear this news. I hope this will be the end of the losses for you now!
I've never had any finches, but find their singing so pretty & would really love to have a couple of them.
I'm sure you must be feeling very stressed out too over the whole thing. I guess if anymore die, I would take one of the dead ones into the avian vet.
Do take care! **HUGS**

Dana,
I am so sorry for your loss.

I do not know anything about finches, so I cannot even guess what might be the problem.

I hope better days are comming. It seems like you have had more tragedy than anyone should have to experience lately.

Thinking of you and your fids,
Genny

Thanks Genny. I've got some people whom I've e-mailed to ask about the finches. I hope they get back to me soon and maybe they can tell me what is going on. Thanks Dana
