| EMERGENCY POSSIBLE POISONING--Please Help!!! : ( |
|
|
as some of u may remember i work at a pet store and there is a bird there that im ridiculously attached to. i took him out today after the store was closed (as i often do) while i was sweeping and whatnot and completely forgot that i had a pen in my hair. he being the curious and chewy conure that he is of course bit off the tip and got blue ink all over the back of my neck, my hair, my shirt...and in his mouth we called poison control and two different vets and they all told us that it wasnt a large enough amount to be lethal, but to monitor his droppings and make sure hes eating. we left him with lots of millet (which he happily ate, the only one that seemed to be completely unaffected by the situation) and rinsed out his mouth as best we could. unfortunately i couldnt stay with him through the night to check up on him, but ill be there at 6am tomorrow. is there anything else i can do? has anyone gone through a similar situation? thanks in advance
hes about 5 months old and is a gold capped conure if that makes any difference |

Hmmmm, I don't know what more you, or anyone else could do either. Hopefully, he just didn't actually ingest much & will be OK. Let us know how he's doing! |

My Grey did the same thing with one of my pens too. And it was on a Sunday so my vet was closed. She had blue inside her beak and all over her tongue. I called an emergency vet who's not an avian vet, and they told me that they could flush out her beak if I wanted, but I didn't go, because from my past experience with them, they don't even know how to hold a bird. Anyway, it turned out that the ink didn't affect her at all and she was totally fine after. So don't worry |

Hi, sorry for the late reply... but I'm glad to hear that the conure is doing ok.
Just for your information, pen ink these days are made from child safe non-toxic ink, so it really shouldn't affect the bird too much if they happen to ingest some while playing with a pen. |
