Parrots use their feathers in showing any kind of emotion. Sometimes they fluff up when they're relaxed and just about to take a nap. Other times they fluff up because they're being territorial and fluff up to appear bigger than they really are. I can't remember what kind of bird Frankie is, but birds with crests, like cockatoos and hawkheads, raise the feathers of their crest when they're happy, excited, alarmed, or angry. In order to be able to read what why your bird is fluffing up, you's have to be able to read the rest of his body language. Foe example, does he look like he's about to lunge and bite? Or does he look more like he's asking for a head scratch? |
