Does anyone know if there's really a difference between a regular full spectrum light bulb you would buy at a hardware store and one bought at a pet store? They both say full spectrum on them, just that the one at the hardware store costs $8 for a light bulb, but the one at the pet store costs about $50 a bulb, and is much smaller Since I live in cold climate, my birds have to spend most of the year indoors, so I can't go without the lights... |

Shirin, I really don't have a clue.. I hope someone else knows. Aren't there any good articles on full spectrum lights?
I would think they are the same, but the ones sold in pet store are sold for pets (Which make them more expensive: Think of palm oil, when you buy it from a pet store for pets it's very expensive, when you buy it from a normal store, it's cheaper)
But, that's just my thought, not sure if it's right though! |

If they both say the same thing, then i would guess they are.The only difference would be the price. I try not to get any thing from a pet store because of the high price they charge, when you can get the same thing for half the price at the store. |

Ok, I just found this article on The Hagen webpage:
www.hagen.com/canada/english/b.....mp;INFO=16
By looking and comparing the numbers I have concluded that they are exactly the same, just that the one at the pet store has a picture of a bird on the packaging So I guess the important thing is knowing when to change the bulbs. |

Maybe contact the manufacturer to find out. I know my dad used to work on prestige cars and found out who manufactured some of the replacement parts for Jaguar, the product turned out to be exactly the same as the companies premium product only difference was the packaging and the price. He saved his customers about 2/3 of the cost in parts and it was exactly the same product. |
