I just bought a senegal from nj hes coming home on june 17th. I live in Philly. How do the birds deal with the heat? Do u keep them in the AC? Please let me know because I have no idea what to do. Right now I have a little parakeet in my bedroom and if I was to keep the new bird in the AC it would be in my bedroom.

It seems bird do deal with the heat relatively well, but you have to make sure they have fresh cool water. Before I turned my AC on in my house and it was a little warm I would mist my birds down, they loved it. My senegal dealt with the heat better then my amazon did.

Where did you buy your senegal from? Congratulations on your baby!!! I just love my sennie!

With senegals there are afew ways u can tell a young bird from an adult bird the easiest is if the bird has dark eyes, babies are also a little smaller and thier orange and yellow may not be quite as bright but that is not the case with all birds gd luck with yor new Sennie xxxxxxx Very Happy

Funny you should mention the size Gemma, & the color. I was just looking thru some pics I took of Jennie when she first came to live with us & realized how much she's grown & changed in just 5 months!

I got Jennie from a breeder when she was 12 wks old. But I agree that there are definitely good birds to be found in pet stores too. I've never aquired a bird from a pet store, but I'm sure a lot depends on the store. Also the birds age & history, which a lot of the pet stores don't seem to be able to tell you much about.
In fact, the day the breeder brought Jennie to me, she had just come from selling several other baby senegals & Meyers to the pet store she says she's sells a lot of her babies to.
I paid $350 for her.
