Well, its hard to tell the age of a senegal....If they are young though they will have dark eyes, when they are older their eyes will turn a yellow or orange color around the pupil...mine is under 6 months old and her eyes are dark still.
As for price, I live in the US and I paid around $450 US dollars. You can probably get them for cheaper though. The cage I got her cost around $80.
Sorry I couldnt help more |

Im not great at this but I think $450 US dollars is around 370 Euros?? So 125 Euros is around $150 US dollars.....If that is right, holy cow that is a great price....dang! I paid $450 for a 3 month old handfed!! If I lived there, watch out!! I would have 5 Sennies hehehe...Im already thinking about buying my Athena's two brothers that are still at the bird store, I went and saw them yesterday...pictures in diary coming soon.. |

Hello Demeter! Welcome! Did you consider getting a sennie from a breeder? The price is usually cheaper and you'll know the hatch date. It's risky getting from a pet store. There is quite a bit of contraversy as to wheather you should get a bird from a pet store. Most pet stores are quite clueless to the knowledge of birds although they act like they know something Especially if the store sells an assortment of different animals. If you can find a store that sells only birds and breeds them and you can see they are well taken care of, then that would be a good store purchase. That's my opinion |

I think that could be the equasion? I don't know?
Ha ha ha five sennies! Beware what you wish for! Those five sennies could RULE the house!
On the other hand, moluccan cockatoos are very cheap where you live.. Half the price of what they cost here!
(Not that I would want a Moluccan)
Did your Sennie come from a breeder or store? Stores are more expensive: 200-225 euros.
Are you seriously thinking of two brothers? |

I would never buy from a normal pet store, even though I always feel sorry for the little guys in there, I did however buy my parakeets from a pet store..anyway...there is a all bird store that I go to, they have been around for 15 years and are very respectable...I have some pictures of some of my visits to their store and their birds. They do deal with breeders and all the hatch dates are next to their little cards with their id bands. That is where I got Athena.
Im putting some pictures up of her brothers, I think they are "brothers" they were both alot bigger and had way bigger beaks then she did.
And as for cockatoo's I absolutely love them, especially those beautiful mullucan's, but honestly, I dont think I would be able to handle tht much of a bird. Someone I know has a sulfer crest that she is trying to find a home for...she has to down grade to an apartment and cant take him with her...she offered me everything for free but I dont know if I can handle that |

Great updated pics demeter!! You are turning out to be a very good parront That store looks very nice and everything seems to be kept nice and tidy. I feel I would make a purchase at a store like that.
As far as size goes, I really don't think that determines the sex. She may have hatched a little later than the others or too soon causing her to be smaller or she was just meant to be genetically smaller. DNA is always best to be sure. Just remember, if your baby is definately a she, be careful getting a male. If they become mates, she may not end up mommies little girl anymore focusing her attention on her mate.
I don't want to discourage you by all means But that is always a factor to look at. |

Wow, Demeter, love those pics!! I absolutely adores all the baby photos you have.. You're so lucky to have such a nice bird store where you're at!! I don't think we have anything like that here... all the weaning babies are kept out of public eyes in the bird shops here... so we dont get to see them until they're ready for sell!! |

Yeah, the store is nice, I love going there! Thank you for the pic comments, I love taking pictures of her. The good thing about the store is that after I put a down payment on Athena you can come up to the store during hand feeding time and they will let you hand feed the bird while they instructed you, I always loved doing that.
She was the first hatched from the clutch, and she was about the same size at around 1 month old, but I noticed at 2 months that her beak was smaller then theirs and I noticed her chest was slimmer also, but her beak was blacker, while the other 2 still had alot of pink still on their beak. I went up to the guy that works there, who has senegals and is the one who got me interested in one, and told him I noticed how much smaller mine was then the other two. He picked her up, we both looked at each other and said at the same time "bet its a girl" As stupid as it sounds, her eyes told me she was a girl also, I cant quite explain that but her eyes just looked like little girl eyes. Obviously suspicions were confirmed when the dna test came back female
As for getting a second bird, I think you're right about maybe not getting a male sennie, I may get the mealy I have wanted, I guess Im undecided....I want them alll LOL |

I second that (wanting them all)! I'll take one of each thank you Does the bird shop have them DNA sexed for you? Do they charge you or is that included in the cost? If so, that's nice. That way you get what you want so there are no worries of getting the same sex unless you want a breeding pair. |

Unfortunately you do have to pay for the dna sexing, it costs $20 which really isnt that bad. I have noticed that alot of times people who want a specific sex will have them all tested so alot of them are already tested for free |

debbie, Senegals in Greece cost about 50 euros when they are from five months to one year old.
Until now, I haven't found any unweaned Senegals but unweaned parrots usually cost double the price of a weaned bird. |

Wow, $20.. that's pretty good.
The DNA sexing here cost $50. I guess that isn't too bad considering everything else... such as toys and cages and stuff.. they cost way more!! LOL |
