Lost parrots  Reply with quote

I was talking with my animal communicator friend, and the topic of lost birds came up because she happened to be working with one. It has been missing all summer, but has adapted to life outdoors and is having quite a nice hoilday! Shocked The communicator has warned it about winter and other dangers, and thinks the bird (conure) can be convinced to be "rescued" once the weather starts to change. Of course, the bird was terrified when it first got out of the house and realized that it didn't know how to get back inside. It got disoriented because it couldn't recognise anything from its new viewpoint. (Pet cats experience similiar fears when they are lost. Unfortunately, they hide and by the time they come out (a week or two), the owner has given up hunting.) Anyway, this "lost" bird is not unique-- the communicator mentioned another parrot that did the same thing. I wondered later if "getting lost" might be seen by a young bird as a natural thing: leaving the nest.

So there's the information, for what it's worth!

Big news today! The conure walked up and let the animal communicator catch him! (The weather is supposed to change dramatically tonight.) He is thin, but otherwise seems to be in good shape and seems very happy with the mountains of nourishing food he is getting!

I forgot to ask my friend about my "leaving the nest" theory.

So, what so you think? With a half-dozen people trying to capture this bird all summer, it walks right up to the one who has been "communicating" with it. Was there really a dialogue between that particular person and the bird, or was it luck?

He did. The people love him and he is very happy. He had already gotten to know the people's other bird through the window and he liked them. They are very happy together. Isn't that sweet?
