| My Senegal has watery droppings |
|
|
We moved to Hong Kong a year ago and our Senegal parrot joined us in Aug of 06 after being poked and prodded for about 60 days.
She settled in very well and I was even able to find most of her regular food here (nutriberries, zupreem pellets and high-end conure seed and nut mix from the US). She was treated for a bacterial infection in Oct 06 and I took her off of all fresh veggies and fruit. She has been on mineral water since she arrived from NYC. Although she isn't 'sick', her droppings are very different since then--very watery, sometimes very bright green. This has continued for months. I give her powdered vitamins in her water and I only give her bagged baby carrots shipped from the US.....vet is baffled...any thoughts???
No, she is not in contact with any other birds and she has been tested and retested for any contagious bird diseases.
Thanks,

Has she been tested for e-coli?
If she has been tested for everything, and has a clean bill of health, why are you worried?
Maybe the climate there is hotter, so she's drinking more water? |

I would say that as long as the solid fecal portion of her droppings are normal not to worry about it too much. If she had a CBC done and it came back normal with many diseases ruled out I wouldn't worry about it too much. The droppings being green sometimes could very well be because the last thing she ate was seed. Birds will have green droppings after eating seed which is perfectly normal. I would only worry if the part of her droppings which is normally white starts to change color or the solid portion of her droppings is very runny. (feces are made up of three parts one which is a clear to semi-clear liquid, one that is a white liquid, and one that is solid and normally brown or green depending on what your bird has eaten recently.)
I would also note that if your bird is eating a pellet (zupreem etc) there is no need to add vitamins and adding vitamins can actually be dangerous as she could overdose. A good pelleted diet has all vitamins and minerals that she needs with no need to supliment except with veggies fruit and a little seed. JMHO |

Hi there and welcome to fluffies. Great to hear about another Senegal.
My Senegal has quite watery droppings at times too. He drinks more than my cockatoo for example. Is there anything in his diet that could make his poop greenish? |
