Plastic bags  Reply with quote

Are plastic bags toxic in any way? My lovebirds love chewing on them, they don't actually bite any pieces off or ingest any of it, they just lick it I think. Is that harmful?

Hmm, I've never seen any hazardous warnings about the actual bag, just the suffocation warning.. I never thought about them being toxic before Shocked

I don't see why it would be a problem as it is plastic and there are many bird toys made of plastic too. I'd just supervise them as I'm sure you do Wink

yeah i don't see anything wrong with plastic bag, apart from may be if it was used to carry something that is toxic to bird. May be new bag to be sure? unless you're certain that it is free of toxic to birds.

I don't think there's anything wrong with them as long as they don't ingest any pieces because that may get stuck in their throat and make them choke? As long as you keep an eye on them it shouldn't be an issue. Do your lovebirds get all fluffy and crazy when you give them bags like Pepe does? Pepe doesn't actually tear pieces off the bag either, he just likes to bash it wish his beak.... must be something about the sound it makes Smile

HEY SHIRIN!! I have a GREAT idea if your lovies like plasic bags and the sound of it, you too koukouvagia! At some petstores they sell these sacks, intended for cats actually and ferrets, they are made of fleece and have crunchy paper stuff sewn in between the fabric Very Happy I'm sure now that I bring it up you know what I'm talking about. This could make a GREAT substitution if the plastic bags make you even the slightest bit nervous. You can also find them on doctorsfostersmith.com in the small animal department and their reletively inexpensive, something like $12 Very Happy AND their machine washable Wink

Thanks for that recommendation! I'm going to look for them next time I'm at the petstore. Very Happy Do you by any chance know what they're called on the doctorsfosterandsmith website so I can see what they look like?
