Hi! I had Manu into the avian vet & he said everything looks real good. Manu is going through a molt, but I was also told to try harder to distract him when he is plucking so that it doesn't become a nasty habit.
But he said that Manu looks in very good health & not to do anything different, other than to try to get him to eat more green veggies, as Manu just doesn't seem to care too much for greens, tho I always give them to him anyway.
And I am still going to try to find some of that Georges liquid aloe.

Cathy.. I know this may sound harsh but I was told to give Zazu the impression that I didn't care if he plucks or not.
It's a hard thing to do! Sad
Please don't pay a lot of attention to the feathers on the ground/falling down & to the plucking..
Also, as your vet told you, try to distract him in a way he doesn't notice it's for his plucking..

I thought by your discription it was just a molt, but I'm not a vet. I'm glad you took him in and found out thats all it was. I unfortunately have an M2(Sammie) that snaps her feathers and I have an adopted MSC2(Sambird) that shredded her feathers when we got her. Sammie for the first time in almost three years has chest feathers and Sambird is completely feathered and could fly but she doesn't realize she can. I think the change from tap water to spring water for drinking and the Georges aloe for baths has really made a difference. Sue is right on ignoring the plucking. It is hard to do but birds seem to play on your reaction to situations and somethimes its better not to react at all. I'm glad everything looks great with Manu.Karen

All of your advice/suggestions are very well taken & very appreciated, believe me Very Happy ! I will take all that you are willing to give!

I mostly give Manu frozen veggies that I put in the microwave for just a tadbit to warm up. He loves eating fresh fruit, & he loves corn, but that doesn't make up for not eating his greens, I know.

Looking thru some of the threads on here, I've noticed someone chopping veggies up into scrambled eggs. Manu does like scrambled eggs, so I'm going to try adding green veggies in them.

Also you might want to try chopping, grating or shredding. I've had to try all kinds of ways to get all my different birds to try their veggies Laughing I tell ya they are just like kids wanting to be picky about veggies,\. Dana

That is so true Dana!

But at times, they're less picky.. Zazu would never accept kiwi, but last time he just ate a whole piece! I couldn't believe my eyes!

It seems they accept things more easy when they're in a strange environment. (With me: On the outdoor parrot gym!)
Perhaps a tip?

Good tip Sue (?)

I have noticed that while Manu is somewhat picky, he might dislike something a couple times & then turn around & eat it the next time. So, as I said, I still offer his "good for you, you need them for your health" foods.
Thought I would let everyone know that he has not plucked again like he did that first day that I noticed it, but he has still been plucking more than he did before that day. I'm working on everyones advice tho. Trying to distract him without letting him know that's what I'm trying to do, & really trying to get him to eat more greens.
And his feathers do look good. I mean, he really doesn't seem to be mutilating them.

Hi Cathy,

Linus' breeder recommended that threading the green leafy vegatables through the cage bars may help. At first, Manau may just pull them off and play with them, but this should get him used to having them in his mouth and he may develop a taste for them. This is how I first got Linus to eat cabbage and kale. He was weaned to spinach, but refused any other greens. now we are working on dandelion leaves and I am finding them more chewed every time I put some in his cage bars! Smile

I just weave the leaves between the bars. So part of the leave is inside and part is outsideAlmost like sewing. Inagine the bars are the fabric and the leaf is thread. The stiches go into and out of the fabric.

Also, I put them in many areas of the cage. So he can forage a bit.
