hmmm that's interesting..... My cockatoo Apollo drinks water straight out of the tap as well, but he also drink out of the drink bowl when he's thirsty so I don't have that problem. May be you can try one of those 'guinea pig or rabbit water dispenser' type water container. You know those that you hang outside the cage with the tube hanging inside the cage where there's a steel ball stopping the water until the bird goes and drink out of it?
Apart from that I Really am not sure. |

I see Cheeta, our resident advice giver has already gotten to this one She is very good at giving suggestions for problem fids! Might want to add though that I once had a 'guinea pig' water dispenser, and that little red ball kept getting sucked up the tube and poor little Speckles2 couldn't get any water I had to constantly check that thing to make sure he could get a drink if he needed one. I'm not saying you shouldn't get one, but you might want to keep a close eye on it if you do! |

Aww Thanks Yupra..
She's right, have to make sure that the tube is working, but I guess one way of solving that would be to make sure that he'll have access to water bowl as well. I think eventually if they are thirsty enough, they'll drink out of the bowl. Birds hardly ever drink. They don't need to drink that much for their size, so may be Rocky does drink out of the bowl, but you just have't seen it. sorry I still can't think of other ideas other then just take him to the tap when he's out with you during his outtime. |

hi thanks for the advice. I'm not too keen on the "guinea pig" things as i had the same prob with them with ma hamster. Thanks tho. Rocky doesn't really have an "out time" he only goes in his cage at night for bed even then its a struggle to get him in. All he wants to do is sit on your shoulder all day preening you lol so we go into the kitchen he is with us anyway and goes over to tap and squawks for us to turn it on for him lol so i know hwe's getting enough water that way just a bit annoying if you are tryin to do dishes lol!!! |

i also wanted to ask we have tried to get him to eat various fruit and veg but he refuses any tips on how to encourage him to eat them as at the moment he will try to get millet spray rather than eating anything. this is what the pet shop was giving him most of the time which i know is wrong and should only be given as a treat as it is fattening any advice???thanks in advance |

All birds are social eaters, Every day fix a plate of fruits sit down with him on your arm and start eating them, offering some to him. Within two weeks he will be eating something off that plate, keep them the same all the time until he is eating good. Then through in some vegs such as corn, and others. You may have to teach him that these are safe to eat as well, by eating them in front of him.
I would not give him any millet spray until you get him eating heathier. Seeds in his bowl are fine for now. But stick with it and he will come around fine. When you do go back to millet spray, always make sure that it is a treat for doing something good, and it always comes for your hand. Never allow him to eat it on his own. A little pinch just enough for him to eat real quick. Leve him wanting more. He is smart, he will figure out what makes you give him millet spray and do it again.

I strongly agree with John about not offering any millet spray for awhile.
He'll come around & be eating good soon, with some persistance |

Some bird never talk. Other you wish would shutup. Each bird is different. If they talk it will be in thier own time and place. The only thing you can do is keep talking to them. |

He will always change as he grows older and the seasons change. Just like you do, everyday you change a little bit more.
You have a beauitful baby, enjoy the baby while you can, he will only be that way once. Let him grow at his own pace. |
