| Water dish |
|
|
Some of you may already know this, but I thought I'd post it anyway for those who don't know. If your birds, like mine like to make soup in their water, make sure you feel the inside of the dish when you're changing their water. If the dish feels slippery or slimy, that's the beginning stages of bacterial growth. So make sure to wash the dish with soap when you feel that sliminess. Lovebirds are notorious for putting their food in their water so I have to wash their water dishes with soap at least 4 times a day. |

Yeah Shirin.. Thanks for putting this up here. I usually clean the bowls in a dishwasher or scrub the slimy stuff off.
When it's very dirty you can see that the bowls have lost their shinyness. |

Oh Shirin, Manu is definitely a Master soup chef!
I run the food & water bowls thru the dishwasher once a day, but I do scrub them out sveral times a day. |

It is pretty gross, isn't it?
You know, I wonder if Jennie would be the same way with the soup if I had her food & water bowls closer together. Manus are next to each other, but Jennies are on opposite ends of the cage. But I do see her dunking sticks of wood that I give her into her water . |

I have this neat little scrubby thing that I use that is perfect for round dishes. It is about 3 inches in height, round, has bristles and holds soap. Give it a couple pumps from the top for the soap and it's ready for scrubbing. You can find them in the kitchen scrubbing aids at the store |

I had the same thing once! Or, it sounds like the same thing anyway. And I did love it & I miss it, it was very convenient. I really need to get a new one! |

Not at this moment, but Iago is! And Zazu too! He likes to dip his wood in his waterbowl. Resulting in green, pink, red or any color water.
Then he dyes himself with it! |

My lovebirds do that too! The have a hanging toy with wooden blocks on it, and they drag it into the water dish and make all the colour come out in the water That's their low fat food colouring soup |

No Sue, I was just kidding - you didn't insult me at all & I know you wouldn't!
I even watch the black birds outside carrying pieces of bread & stuff to our bird baths & soaking them It's really a pretty smart thing I guess.
But the slime in the bowls is yucky. |
