Picasso has his clipped, I prefer my birds to fly but he is so heavy if he hits anything he'll really hurt himself, I also take him out a lot. He gets around pretty well climbing and jumping or begging to be carried. So far he's reached my books which I thought were out of reach, my pot plants, and anything else he is determined to get. As far as clipping goes I think the best is when they can not glide but still have enough feather to give them a gentle landing so they don't hurt themselves.

Ok, had this going thru my head for a while now and I think the best thing would be to clip my birds. I have had my quaker clipped all her life, have had her since she was a baby, and I love the fact that she can go outside with me but the greys are older and have never had their wings clipped, tho one grey has been cage bound for awhile before I got him so his previous owner mentioned that he was not in the best shape to flight. I would still not take the chance of taking him out at the moment. Did anyone notice a significant change in their personalities after they were clipped?

My macaw acts quite a bit different for about 3 days after I have his wings clipped. He is very quiet afterward, doesn't make any noise at all & just stays right on his perch, is much less active than normal. It makes me feel terrible afterward, but that only lasts for about 3 days, then he's back to normal.

I've only had his wings clipped a couple of times, but the first time, I was very worried afterward, by his behavior. I felt he hated me, but as I said, he was soon back to normal.

My friend here has an African grey who was probably wild caught.
We clipped him some time ago.
He wasn't tame AT ALL!

We took him outside on the outdoor gym, and he loved it! Now, he will come to the perch we're holding in front of him if we ask: Are you coming outside?
We don't regret clipping his wings a single second. He loves being outside!

Please read more about this wonderful grey here:
