I'm thinking of changing my mind on the parakeets.I still might keep them in my mind but im also looking for other options. If anyone has other suggestions for a bird then tell me. But i'm not getting a macaw or cocatoo. Any suggetions would be helpful. |

Well it depends what you are looking for. If you want one bird then I would recomend a small parrot such as the Senegal, these are very quiet parrots and not too destructive. They have the fun and loving personality of a large bird without the unmanagable size. You could go one sixe up and think about a Hahns Macaw or Eclectus however then there is MUCH more noise but I do think they have much more obvious personalities. You could also go smaller and think about lovebirds or budgies and although these make delightful pets they do not have the personality and trainability of some larger parrots. You also have to think about price a budgie will cost around £20.00 or less where as a hand reared sennie will put you back over £400.00. Once you have decided what you want let me know and I will give you some more information.

Sugar Creek would be a good place for you to go. They are good breeders

Don't go to a pet store. I would also consider waiting until spring and get a wanned baby.

I looked around some and some birds I liked are the mini-macaw mentioned earlier, sengal parrot, and some of the amazon parrots. If anyone can tell me about any of these i would appericaite it. One thing i definitilly want to know is the deminsions of a cage i would need for just 1 of any of these birds. Thanx |

I would probably say that steer clear of the Amazon unless you've had plenty of bird experience before.. the smaller ones are a better start in bird ownership.
Not sure about minimum size of cage, but obviously the bigger it is the better it is for the birds.. |

i would also recommend greencheeck conures. They are a good sized parrot with friendly active personalities. |

I would recomend a Senegal, they are quiet, clean, small and easily trainable with quite a good talking ability. You could go either way with the cage either a large parakeet cage or a small parrot cage. Conure's are also good for first time parrot owners but i dont know much about them Whatever your descision good luck and I hope you find your dream birdie

Good luck with your search, I have a Sennie and a Hahns Macaw and they are both great, the Hahns is quite loud and this might be a consideration, my Sennie is much quieter although his whistles can get quite loud. In general the larger the cage the better but be aware of the spacing of the bars of the cage, with a smaller bird the bars would need to be closer together as there is a danger that the bird could get its head through and injure or kill itself, also some of the cages for smaller parrots are only suitable for budgies or cockatiels as the bars may not be robust enough for the stronger beaks of birds like Senegals or Hahns Macaws. If you bear these points in mind when buying a cage you should be fine. Once again good luck with whatever you decide to get and congratulations with deciding to research thoroughly before getting a bird. |

I've narrowed it down to 3 possible birds to get. These 3 are the senegal, the green cheeked conure, and any of the indian ring necks including the alexandrine. Any info on thses species would be great. Thanx for all the help so far. |
